It’s Tough To Have A Crush…

September 20th, 2007 @ 2:17 pm by Mrs. Hummingbird

On a stationery company.

As a paper fiend, one of the things I’ve been really excited about since we got engaged was being able to pick out an invitation that would both match our style and fit our budget. So, the last few weeks, after surfing the web and drooling over what I have lovingly come to refer to as “paper porn” (you saw evidence of my obsession in my last post), I’ve formed my opinions and I think I’ve found my stationery soulmate in baron*cards.

Based out of Ontario, Lianne and Ron Tokey offer a set of designs that are not only crisp and beautiful looking, but that, when all is said and done, won’t break the bank. (Plus as an added bonus, you can have some of the colours in the designs modified so they work with your decor!)

Anyway, we haven’t picked anything out yet as we are still working on the guest list (gulp!), but I think I may have worked out where our invites are coming from.

So, without further ado, I present the invitation candidates! (For visuals, I just pulled the simple flat invites from the site, but each design comes in different forms of stationery, so if you click on the design names I’ve linked, you can see everything. The Foliage Design - Since we’re doing things on Mr. Hummingbird’s dad’s property and will most likely have the ceremony out by the edge of the forest, I like the tree branch motif.

The Magnolia Design - I want to do my hair fairly simply and, right now, I am toying with the idea of having either a magnolia or a gardenia (a la Billie Holiday) in my hair.

The Orchids I Design - Mr. Hummingbird’s dad cultivate orchids and I really love their colour and shape.

The Peacock Design - The dresses I’ve picked for our Maid of Honour and Best Lady are a beautiful blueish green colour so I thought this might play into this style.

The Retropolis Design - I love retro and vintage stuff so I love the funky cool shapes of this one!

The Wheatgrass Design - I think with the pond on the property, this would also work well with the atmosphere of the wedding - simplistic and nature based.

Mr. Hummingbird and I like all the designs, so it’s time to get some additional input - which one(s) do you like best?

Gosh darn - so many great choices. I love the first 3. hahah. for the straight clean look - maybe 2 then 1.

Foliage & Peacock are my two favorites! These all look like great finds though!!!

Funny, I kind of like the last 3! Retropolis is my fave, but it depends what the style of the event ends up being (and it’s a little informal). I also like the peacock one b/c of the color and it’s stylish and modern. Wheatgrass feels really clean and simple…so many good choices!

The foliage and peacock designs caught my eye: unique, beautiful, simple, fun. Your bio states you want to throw “the most fun and colorful party of your life” and I think the peacock invitations would definitely be the proper first impression to this!

I like them all, but for your wedding and what it sounds like you’re going for, I like foliage and wheatgrass the best!

peacock is the most striking. I also like the clean simple lines of wheatgrass though- depends on the formality of your event. I think wheatgrass feels more informal.

I like the wheat grass for its simplistic elegance. That font is beautiful

The peacock is nice, but I always think of “strutting like a peacock” when I see one

Orchids would be cool (love those colors)…but are you having orchids anywhere in your wedding?

I figure that the invitation is how people get an idea of your wedding: fun, funky, classic, floral, simple etc. The colors and designs give guests clues: what to wear, how formal, what colors etc. If you’re thinking of his dad’s property, then maybe the nature based ones would be a great match. Hope that helps!

The peacock one is my favorite, but I am biased because the theme of my wedding is peacocks.

My second favorite is the wheatgrass. I think it would fit the formailty of your wedding better than the peacock.

I like the wheatgrass. The others were okay, but the wheatgrass just took the cake for elegance and “wow, what a neat looking invitation”-ness. ;)

I love the wheatgrass ones. I agree with daydreamer33 that they’re a little less formal than some of the others. I’m not a fan of the retropolis - I think that’s almost too informal for a wedding. I also like the tree (assuming you could get the font in another color - I don’t like the blue), the magnolia, the orchid, and the peacock. So, um, all of them.

Some people consider peacock feathers to be unlucky… But I’m not superstitious so bleh! All pretty!
