I went back and forth on many different styles of bridesmaids dresses before I finally picked the dress. At first I thought I wanted a chocolate brown color since my colors are turquoise and brown. People have often said that you should pick a darker color for your bridesmaids so that your white dress stands out more. Also, being inspired by “My Best Friend’s Wedding” AKA my favorite movie of all time, I really wanted my MOH to have a different dress. Here were some of the styles I considered for the brown colored dresses:
The brown dresses are from Loehmann’s and they’re Calvin Klein. They were only $30 each! I bought them knowing that I could return then (and I did.) My bridesmaids thought they were just okay, and they thought the fabric looked cheap. So I kept looking until my MOH said “you know what… you’re having a young, fun wedding. You should have a bright color to match your personality!” So it was decided then that I would stop looking for chocolate dresses and find turquoise dresses.
I found SO many that I loved in the Nordstroms online store, and they’re so much cheaper than most of the bridesmaids dress brands I had been looking at.
I finally decided on this dress below. I think Nordstroms ran out of the Aquamarine color that I chose, because it’s not available now, but there are TONS of other colors! The only bad thing is that I couldn’t get a different dress for my MOH, but that was okay.
These dresses were only $138 and I loved the bright color!

I wore that dress in a brighter teal to a friend’s wedding last weekend - I loved it - it will be a great bridesmaids dress because its flattering, rewearable, and inexpensive - but made out nice material, unlike the gross fabric a lot of BM dresses come in.
I actually got mine off e-bay for $20!
I actually fell in love with some bm and moh dresses from nordstrom.com but im concerned with ordering and sizing because my bms and moh cant physically try on the dresses. any tips for ordering?
You have great taste! As drab as brown might seem for a wedding, I love love love the classic simplicity of the first brown dress. It would be great to wear as a guest to a wedding.
I wore the first dress as a BM 2 years ago and haven’t worn it since. I think your new choice is better since they look like dresses that you can wear again! Great choice!
My wedding planner and photographer made a good point about having your girls wear dresses in colors that look good on you since you’re going to be photographed with them. I really wanted aqua but my skin tone looked kinda blah with it so I chose a watermelon color.
I wore the first dress as a BM 2 years ago and probably will never wear it again. Good choice on your dress…I can totally see it being worn again outside of your wedding.
My planner and photographer both made a good point when choosing BM dresses…they said to chose a color that you look good in since you will be photographed against the colors of their dresses. I really wanted the aqua/teal color but it looked blah against my skin but ended up choosing a watermelon color.
GOOD choice to go with the brighter color!!

i dunno- i bought a dress from nordstrom’s but the material turned out much cheaper than i had expected. =( we ended up still wearing them (as BM dresses) but overall were rather disappointed with the quality in comparison to the pic online.
My bm’s wore that dress from Nordy’s in a mix of coral and yellow (they chose) - they were beautiful! The quality is great, and when we had a size issue, Nordstroms took back the original with no problems.
FYI for anyone looking for this dress but would like to see it in person- they carry it at Boston Store. Hope that Helps!
My girlfriends recently wore the Nordies dress in a wedding. They all loved the price and that it was actually wearable again. I’d suggest calling around to different Nordstroms to see if they have it in the store (my gfs bought theirs in the store).
Also, a suggestion for your MOH to stand out. What if she wore the dress in brown and the other girls wore aqua? That way you’d have the continuity of the style but she would still stand out.

Is that a Maggy London dress? I swear I wore that exact dress (in chocolate brown) in a wedding last summer!
I have the same dress in dark blue. It’s totally re-wearable and very comfortable. If you do wear spanx, the skirt can stick to the spanx fabric. I think some fabric softener would fix that.
