Bermuda Cruise, Days 4-5

September 24th, 2007 @ 5:16 pm by Mrs. Peony

Day 4 started bright and early again with a catamaran snorkeling trip!

I didn’t bring my camera, but Mr. Peony took plenty pictures with his camera phone. Here’s a very small sampling. Preparing to board the catamaran:

En route to the coral reef:

A view of our ship from the catamaran:

We’re snorkeling! The guide explained that the coral reefs around Bermuda are some of the northmost reefs in the world. They’re not as colorful or exotic as the ones further south, but they were still pretty fascinating to me, since I’ve never seen them before.

As we returned onboard, the guides gave us rum cocktails:

Perhaps snorkeling isn’t the best option for someone like me who isn’t a strong swimmer and has a deathly fear of fish (yes, even little goldfish). I literally screamed when I saw my first fish over 1’ long swimming towards me, and I freaked out a little when a school of tiny blue things passed by me. However, it was still a great experience and I really, REALLY regret not having brought a waterproof camera!

As soon as the tour was over we took quick showers and took a ferry to Hamilton, the capital of Bermuda. There were some amazing houses along the coastal line, and we were told that many celebrities own homes along this area (Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas actually live in Bermuda and their kids go to school there).

Here are some pictures we took while walking along the streets of Hamilton:

We didn’t have too much time for Hamilton because the ship was set to leave Bermuda that evening. However, we managed to squeeze in some shopping (duty free and tax free, baby!). We returned that night with some bad sunburns. blush01

Day 5:

I managed to take this picture, but that’s all. sad I had gotten sick overnight and spent the majority of the day in bed, sleeping. Thank goodness it was the last day of the trip and we were at sea!

Next post: shopping goodies!

Yay Bermuda! I’m from Bermuda, so I love to see positive features anywhere, but especially on WeddingBee! When I lived there I used to take the ferry to work every day, and I used to work right there on Front Street. In fact, I can see my office building in one of your pictures.

I’ve actually met C Z-J and Michael Douglas at my little cousin’s birthday party, since one of their kids is in his class at school. MD’s mother and her family are Bermudian, and he’s part owner of one of the really popular hotels. I hope you had a great time!
