Into The Mystic

September 25th, 2007 @ 5:01 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

This morning, my friend Tricia reminded me about something that has always been in the back of my mind. She had gone to a psychic this past weekend and was told some good things. This brought back memories of my own trips to various psychics, palm readers, and tarot card readers.

Living in Los Angeles, the odds of finding one of those “mystics” are high. Heck, head on down to Venice Beach and you’ll find a plethora. A few years back, after breaking up with Mr. Kiwi, I had been dating this guy for a year or two. Longing to be in love, I considered myself “fallen”, and went to a palm reader to tell me our future. Apparently, I was the only person to not see how badly he treated me. Isn’t that always how it is? The palm reader told me there were two marriages ahead of me. One while I was young, a relationship that would soon dissolve thereafter. And another one after I had “loved and lost”. The reason for these two marriages, she said, would be because I needed to be treated right. If I didn’t fix myself, I was in for a lot of heartbreak, one being that dissolved marriage. Cripes! Into The Mystic : wedding los angeles Shocked2 shocked

Thinking that palm reader was a bit nutty, I went to a tarot card reader. Glutton for punishment, I am. This tarot card reader sat me down and had me cut the cards, or whatever they do. After all the pomp and circumstance, she proceeded to tell me the exact same thing the palm reader said. Into The Mystic : wedding los angeles Surpris surpris Well, exact with the addition of two children. How freakin’ weird is that?? Anyway, after another two years or so with that boyfriend, we broke up. I actually DID realize I deserved better.

While I don’t know if I believe those mystics, I do know that Mr. Kiwi is “my better”. And I hope that even if what was said was true, I have somehow erased that prophecy in finding the awesome Mr. Kiwi. I can only imagine what would have happened had I stayed with the tool from before!

What do you think about all these so-called mystics? Do you ever go to them? If so, do you believe what they say, or just take it jokingly?

Years ago in Korea, matchmaking services were all the rage and that’s how the majority of my aunts and uncles met. One of my aunts, after meeting a man a few times in person through a matchmaking service, liked him enough but wasn’t sure if she should continue seeing him because they were long distance.

So they went to a fortune teller together. The fortune teller told them that they would get along just okay, have a romance that’s just okay…nothing extraordinary. However, she said that if they get married, they would have a very accomplished first child.

They got married the next year and had a child immediately. When the child (my cousin) started to grow her teeth, her top tooth came out first, which is considered a very VERY good sign in Korean culture - I think it means that the child will grow up to be great.

My cousin is still young so who knows what’ll happen? But I think it’s a funny story and I wanted to share that with you. :-)

One of my best friends’ uncles was a really well known palm reader in India. He read her palm when she was maybe 12 and he said that she would meet her husband when she was 23 and marry him when she was 26. A few months later, he stopped reading palms and everyone wanted to know why: it was because he read on someone’s palm that they were going to die in just a few days and he didn’t know what to say to the person, so he lied and said he couldn’t see their future. Of course, then the person died, and he gave it up forever.

So we (her friends) knew this story and when she was 23 and 24 we kept listing every guy she met as a potential husband, but there weren’t ever any reasonable options so we just assumed he’d been wrong about her. Then…she got set up on a blind date…with a guy it turned out she had actually met once at a party…when she was 23. Needless to say after about a year, he proposed, and then they got married - when she was 26! :-)

A friend gave me a gift certificate to go to one in my area because I said I wasn’t soo sure about the whole thing. She went into detail about my family and people I dated and where I would go.

In the middle of it all, she told me about this tall older man who would be the one I’d spend the rest of my life with. During that time in my life, I just gave up on men and thought she was making stuff up. Three years later I met my FI and he was everything she described.

Once in a while I’ll go back and listen to the tape she made of the reading. Eerie. I loved it but don’t think I could ever go back again! I much rather find out what my fate is by living it out! :)

Gosh, I can’t think of the term right now, but I’m a big believer in that whole concept that you’ll start acting out exactly what people predicted for you, regardless of whether you “believe” or not, so I stopped listening to this kind of thing years ago, and believe me, I heard a lot of it. I have friends who are really into it, and when I was younger, a had a friend who was totally into it even more.

But more importantly Miss Kiwi, you’ve totally got me listening to Van Morrison on my ITunes right now, tyvm =D

I think we hear what we need to hear. And darling, it’s possible hearing that - even two years prior - helped you make the right decision ultimately.

Isn’t it funny how wonderful it is to look back on our “bad” mistakes and realize how incredibly lucky we are now?

You mean self-fulfilling prophecy, right Miss Petunia? I think that sometimes you are right, if the fortune made was something the person had control over and could choose to make the fortune into a reality. But Mrs. Bluebell’s story is pretty crazy if you ask me.

My chiropractor’s receptionist is really into psychics too and she recently was planning a road trip across Canada. She went to her psychic beforehand, who told her that her car would break down somewhere in the middle of Saskatchewan. This scared her because breaking down in Saskatchewan basically means breaking down in the middle of nowhere. So what did she do? She drove to Calgary, and then the next day she calculated the distance it would take to get from Calgary to the place in Saskatchewan where her car was supposedly going to break down. Then she drove half that distance away from Calgary, and then the other half she just drove right back. And lo and behold, her car broke down at the end of the day. In Calgary, where there were plenty of car mechanics! Crazy, no?

I think these stories are cool but I have never had anything of the sort happen to me personally.

We visited a psychic who told my FI that he would get a job as a long term sub this semester (he’s a high school chemistry teacher) and eventually get a job during the winter semester. He thought it was complete bull and now he is a full time chemistry teacher! I really think it is what you make of it. I was told that I would get a job that I did not get at all! So I do believe that ultimately, it’s up to you or the big man up there :)

I don’t know about believing them…but if they’re right, I wouldn’t want to know. Kind of takes the fun out of finding out. :)

A few years back, a friend of mine BEGGED me to go with her to see her psychic (whom she saw weekly, yeah, she’s a little crazy) Anyway, at the time i was recently out of a horrible relationship and not thinking about dating at all, but always wondered so i went. The woman told me that a man from my past would come back into my life and it would be fiery but ultimately we would be together until death. I thought at the time she was talking about another ex, whom i had stayed friends with. I thought it was funny and didn’t think anything of it, because he definitely WASN’T fiery by any means.

Two years went by and it hadnt so much as crossed my mind. Then, someone on another wedding community im on mentioned this very topic and i thought back to my visit with Gina, the nutty psychic, and then thought about my current situation.

Shortly after meeting with Gina, I got back in touch with a man that i had previously very casually dated. It was fireworks instantly. We had a bit of a time getting settled with each other and spent a lot of time trying to always “be right”. You see the fiery part i was talking about? ;)

In the end, we are now engaged to be married (obviously) and couldn’t be happier. Here’s to being together until death.
