Thank You Card Deconstructed

September 25th, 2007 @ 3:02 pm by Mrs. Violet

I decided not to wait for our photo thank you cards, so I made some of my own to send out. Thanks to the great idea of meleven, I will instead use the photo thank you cards for Christmas.

Making thank you cards is actually quite simple.(well for the most part) I will try to give you a quick snapshot of how you can make your own handmade cards to send out.

What I used:

80lb cardstock (I bought 8.5 x 11″ and made two cards using my trimmer and scorer.)

Scrapbook paper of your choice

Computer & Printer

Ink, Stamp & Glue

I cut the scrapbook paper to the size I needed to fit the cardstock. Added the stamped images with brown ink. Tip: Do you see the baby wipes peeking out in the corner? It’s the perfect wipe to have on hand while you work! You’ll never need to run to the sink again.

Printed our monogram on a lower weight cardstock. Cut each monogram square and edged it with brown ink to give it more depth.

Let dry and applied it to the scrapbook paper with glue. Let dry again and then applied it with glue to the cardstock.

Making cards can be very inexpensive or it can also be quite pricey depending on the kind of paper you buy and weight of cardstock you purchase. Stamps can be expensive too but the more you use it, the more cost effective it becomes. At least this is the reason I give myself when I shop for stamps! Good luck and let me know if you do make your own Thank You cards.. I’d love to see them!

I made my own thank you cards following our engagement brunch (I had to make about 65 total so it was somewhat labor intensive, considering all the embossing) but they received rave reviews. Plus, I would make one, then write it out, then make another, etc., so the crafting part definitely decreased the monotony of writing out all the thank you notes.

Julie - that’s a great tip!

L - The stamp is from a sheet of clear stamps by Rhonda Farrer. It is called “Swirls” I love her stamps!!
