Off To NYC For the B

Regina B that is! (yes, it seems my posts these days are all on the heels of Mrs. Bell Pepper’s, who recently herself posted her rave review of Regina B!). That’s my best Vanna White impression above!

A couple of weeks ago I treated myself to a little trip to the Big Apple, accompanied by my good friend (and bridal party usher) J, for a little wedding day jewelry shopping, a viewing of a couple of Broadway musicals and a meeting with Mrs. Bee!

I got the idea to spoil myself and check out Regina B because I figured if I was going to spend a decent amount of money on jewelry I’d likely only wear once (or twice, if the occasion presents itself) it probably made sense to actually get a good look at it person. Truth be told, it was good that I did because I have a poor sense of proportion and I wouldn’t have been able to tell what size pieces to choose for myself based on pictures from the Internet alone, BUT, if you have a good eye yourself I can say that I would otherwise feel more than comfortable purchasing any of their products completely online, as I thought they were all accurately portrayed.

Look at all the preciousness to choose from!

Here I am picking out my choices. You can choose whatever you like and then you put your selections in your little velvet tray:

Here’s the final choice for my bracelet, without all its inlaid crystals (ignore all that arm hair and the crazy veins — the blood bank loves me!):

And here’s a picture of me trying on the hair clip I liked best. It turned out to be a bit small for me, we all agreed. I have A LOT of hair! Regina B is going to custom make one for me, based on this one, but slightly larger and set on a large enough comb to stay in place in my thick mane:

It takes about 4 weeks for a custom piece to be made. They will e-mail you pictures throughout the process to make sure everything is on the right track. This next picture shows the same bracelet I chose and another girl’s comb in the process. Notice that it doesn’t have the crystal inlaid yet. They showed me this one to see if I wanted mine to be like it. This one in particular is a bit wider/longer than what I want for myself, but it helped to see it so I could point them in the right direction:

Other Bees have posted about the cost of their jewelry, so I won’t mind sharing my costs either, though I will preface doing so by saying that I am aware that perhaps it is more than what some brides can or care to afford and who knows, perhaps it is less. For me, spending this money is definitely a splurge, but I don’t own too many terribly expensive things and I don’t have any plans to sell these after the wedding, so I felt like this was both a rare special purchase and a sentimental one, too. I mean, these are the pretty things I’ll wear on the day I say “I Do.” LOL: in other words, I rationalized it. I hope, too, that by posting the costs other brides will have an idea ahead of time of whether something like this can be worked into their budgets.

I apologize ahead of time: I didn’t seem to get any pictures of the earrings, but as soon as I get them, I will be sure to do so!

Earrings: $165

Bracelet: $215

Comb: $300

The comb is the most expensive piece because, as you can imagine, it’s custom made, and the largest piece of the three. The comb pictured above, on which its modeled, costs $225.

Pleeeease don’t apologize for the nonexistent arm hair/ veins. I’ve often noticed that many bees who posts such photos attaches an apology of this kind (”excuse my body hair, bad nails, bad hair, lack of makeup” etc) and it really distracts from lovely pictures of lovely things. I read this site because it’s written by real women, not photoshopped clones with no personalities! Ladies, let’s unite and refuse to apologize for being human!!

I agree 100% with kitty! Plus, in many cases, the apologies are really quite silly, and then I’m going back to the photo and thinking, “what are they talking about?!” Knock it off, y’all!

just lovely. the only jewelry i wore on my wedding day was a pair of earrings my grandmother had given me (my something blue and something old), a broach of my grandmother’s that i turned into a hair pin and my engagement and wedding ring.

the bracelet is lovely. and i 3rd the “no more apologies!” it’s hard to resist the urge — i do it too. can’t to see it all finished and how it comes together on the big day!

I love Regina B. I want to get a hair comb but now that I see your bracelet I want one too! So pretty! I’m going to make a stop there when I go to NY next!

Oh and thanks for posting the prices, it’s really helpful to know how much I could potentially be spending!

Those are gorgeous Miss Petunia. I love the vingtage glam look of them.

They might be a little on the expensive side, but they will make for a nice keepsake and I’m sure you’ll be able to wear them again. Consider it an investment ;)

About the apologies, I agree with Mrs. Onion. It is hard to resist the urge. I know I’ve done it before too. I think it’s partially because we know a lot of people will be looking at these pictures on a very public website, ya know? It can be hard to not to feel a little self concious sometimes. After all, we are human as kitty said, right?

These pieces are great! I think I’m going to set up an appointment there ASAP! I bought an antique 1890s bracelet for the wedding and I think those hair comb pieces would really look great with it. They have a similar feel. Thanks for this post!

Love your selections, Miss Petunia!

Her jewelry is so ornate yet almost weightless! I wish I could have bought a bracelet from her because my Haute Bride bracelet was pretty heavy. Great post on Regina B.

Beautiful jewelry! I think it’s ok to splurge once in a while on ourselves, especially for such a momentous occasion. ;) Love your thick, dark hair!

Wow, those are stunning!! And the prices really aren’t bad when you consider that you’ll have them as keepsakes forever, hopefully even to pass on to your children someday….

Beautiful! I think I am going to have to check her stuff out in person as well. One question… do you know if the pieces sterling silver, or just silver-colored metal?

I love Regina B.!!! I just ordered my hair comb there a couple weeks ago - it is one they sell, but I ordered in bronze and changed the color of the crystals….I am spending $500 on it, so don’t feel bad! But the second I saw it I knew it was exactly what I was looking for. I cheaped out on my dress and bought a Casablanca (gorgeous dresses extremely affordable prices) - now my shoes and hair comb are costing more! I told my future hubby earrings were on him ; )
