The Rehearsal And The Afro-Wig

September 26th, 2007 @ 11:30 am by Mrs. Onion

Our rehearsal began and I was a little nervous as I didn’t have every detail of the ceremony planned (who would stand where etc). Our minister quickly put us all at ease with her great sense of humor and we started walking through the ceremony. I have no idea HOW I didn’t notice but suddenly our minister looks at Mr. Onion’s brother who was one of our groomsmen and just couldn’t keep back a laugh.

He was wearing an Afro-Wig, a gold tooth, a dollar sign necklace and a belt that read “PHAT.” So freakin’ funny! Note the look on my father in law’s face — is it fear or embarrassment? I’m not sure. It’s a good thing I have a sense of humor and have had almost 3 years to get used to my brother in law!

The rehearsal went pretty well but I still wasn’t 100% sure we’d all remember everything but I had faith that our wonderful minister would keep everything running smoothly (which it did)! Here are some more pictures of the walk through (we even got to practice the kiss — so fun)!

See how long my hair was? I had been growing it out for a year and it felt so great to get my hair cut on our honeymoon!

Next it’s on to the pre-ceremony portraits…

Note: All the photos so far were taken by family and friends. Just wait — they get even better! The only professional photos we have yet were included in my first wedding post, I *Heart* Daria Bishop.

That first picture is hilarious! I almost blew my SlimFast right out my nose when I saw it! I grew my hair out for a year before my wedding too - and got it chopped as soon as I got back from my honeymoon. But now, I almost wish I still had my long hair - is that wierd? Maybe it’s a symptom of the whole post-wedding-withdrawal thing.

Hilarious! I think that’s a fantastic idea - a fun rehearsal - wear what you want!

Oh and - I’m a bit anxious about growing MY hair out for my wedding a little over a year from now. My hair is shoulder length - but I want to be able to DO something with it.

How long was your hair when you started growing it out - and for how long?? Just curious…

Thanks for the feedback. We did have a great time — and for the record — I had NO idea my BIL planned to wear the wig etc.

L — thanks very much :)

HABC — It was the best feeling! And thanks — I love that necklace too.

Kate — I’d say that my hair was about as long as it is now (see the photo of my haircut from my honeymoon post “I’ve got a new attitude”) and I must have grown it out about 4 inches give or take. I’m sure you’ll be able to “DO something” with yours. I had almost too much hair for my updo b/c I was so nervous I wouldn’t have enough. I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my hair for the wedding day so I wanted to have as many options as possible with the length

Ha ha, that afro is awesome! It’s nice to bring a little levity when everyone’s so stressed.

Slightly off-topic: I noticed a lot of people are talking about growing, then cutting their hair. I’d like to suggest you consider donating your hair to Locks of Love (http://www.locksoflove.org/). They use the hair to make wigs for children who have lost their hair due to illness and cannot afford hairpieces on their own. It’s a wonderful cause. There are some guidelines which are posted on the site. I’d be happy to share more with anyone who’s interested — just PM me. I donated 14 inches about 8 months before my May wedding, and in another month or two, I should have enough (10 inches) to donate again.
