Okay readers, I had my fitting and I didn’t take pictures.
Please don’t hate me- I have a good excuse! I’m terrified of my alterations lady. She’s very no-nonsense about things, and says very little, all of her correspondence regarding my fittings go through my FMIL before they get to me… so when it’s time to do it, I find out the day before and show up. While this does nothing for scheduling my evenings, I’m usually in and out within a half an hour.
Slightly different from the last fitting, this time the sides were already undone, and ready to be fit to my body. The last time I put the dress on, she sighed and said, “There is so much I have to do before we even try to fit it.” As I pulled the dress on this time, I could hear beads falling to the floor! My poor beads! Each one probably cost me like, a dollar to have sewn on that dress (damn you, shop markup!)! There was such a rainfall of beads that even Theresa (the seamstress) remarked about it.
Anyway, as the dress was pulled on and zipped up (just THAT makes me happy- it ZIPS UP!), she clamped the sides together and we saw how much I needed to take off. And girls, with the dress fitted a little better, I felt good about myself and the dress! I looked smaller, and felt so much better. After digging her hands into my shoulders and telling me to loosen up a bit (I swear, I thought I WAS loose!), she and I decided we’re going to make some more changes to the dress.
The dress has a bead work border at the top of the modified sweetheart neckline, and at the waist. The beads kind of hurt my arms, after only wearing it for 10 minutes! Here is a closeup of the bead work lining the bodice.
I’m not too fond of the beading at the neckline, since it’s veeeery “beady” already. After looking at myself in this dress, we realized we’re going to have to do some work on this puppy. The neckline sits very high up on my chest, making me look like I have a huge top shelf. When Theresa mentioned possibly having the sides dipped down to make it a little less painful on my underarms, I told her that I wasn’t that attached to the beading at the neckline, and if she wants to remove it, to go ahead. It’s not like there isn’t enough beading to match anything else! When I told her that, she mentioned possibly dipping the neckline in a little more, since I didn’t care too much about the beading, anyway. I started to see her “vision”, and gave her full permission for the bodice changing. She does this for a living, and knows what will look best on me, right?
Hopefully I won’t be too scared at my next appointment, and will take pictures. Up to now, the fittings have been more of a “let’s see what we have to do to get started” type, and the real ones will start soon!
