Ooh, my favorite planning resource has to be The Knot. And all the knottie bios. My fav mags are Modern Bride, Martha Stewart Weddings and InStyle Weddings!

Magazines: I like the Knot Wedding Magazine, Martha Stwart Weddings, Sunset Weddings, and the new Seattle Bride and Groom.

Book: Instant Weddings: From “Will You?” to “I Do!” in Four Months Or Less By Jennifer L. Shawne. My mom bought me this book and even though we were engaged for more than a year, it helped me with not stressing out over small things. It has an attitude makes you want your wedding to be about fun.

My mom bought me this book and even though we were engaged for more than a year, it helped me with not stressing out over small things. It has an attitude makes you want your wedding to be about fun. It also has areas where you can write down your ideas and decisions. What fun it was to look back at all the ideas we had!

The Knot website and Martha Stewart Magazine!

the best book ever - Bridal Bargains- Secrets to Throwing a Fantastic Wedding on a Realistic Budget. http://www.amazon.com/Bridal-Bargains-Throwing-Fantastic-Realistic/dp/1889392081

It really opens your eyes to bridal scams, what things to be sure to include in contracts, and explains a lot of the jargon that can be confusing. And if you are on a budget it is a must. It’s not perfect but if you start out knowing nothing it’s essential.

Martha Stewart Weddings.
And I also second the Bridal Bargains — Secrets to Throwing a Fantastic Wedding book. It was the only valuable book I’ve come across — I actually got it for free, but it is DEFINITELY worth the price.

Living in NYC- I have used New York Magazine Wedding Guide as my everything reference. I found my planner, my photographer, my hair salon for hair trial, my makeup artist so far just through this magazine. I expect I’ll use it more in the months to come. (And my wedding is in Jamaica, not NY! It was still so helpful).

Lucy says:

I second the New York Magazine Wedding Guide. Love it! (and my wedding is 3000 miles away from NYC)

Annie says:

The wedding gods bible (MSWeddings) and pretty much any book on wedding flowers that I can get from the library. I love looking at them for inspiration and the florals are always on gorgeous tables or inspiring outdoor areas that make me ooh and ahh. Not many people seek out these books as resources, but I’ve found them to be helpful. And the library is FREE which helps my budget!!!

I found Preston Bailey’s “Design for Entertaining” and Colin Cowie Weddings to be my best resources! Lots of practical advice!

Magazines: Town and Country, Charleston Weddings Magazine, New York Magazine wedding guide (website is pretty good too) and of course Martha Stewart Weddings.

Books: Southern Weddings by Tara Guerard, Signature Weddings by Michelle Rago

13.
Aliya says:

Jo Gartin’s wedding book and the Better Homes & Gardens Guide to Wedding Flowers. I NEVER see the latter one metioned on bridal blogs or boards, but you can find it in the magazine rack at your local Barnes and Noble. It served as the main inspiration for our wedding flowers this past August!

14.
Jayma says:

MS Weddings definitely & the Better Homes & Gardens wedding magazines as well.

Books- bridal bargains & the anti-bride guides! :-)

I just came back from the library and wow…I had no idea they had wedding books there. I don’t know why it didn’t occur to me earlier. Thanks, Annie! Yay for free!

Sarah says:

I got a library book called “Weddings for Grown-Ups,” renewed it three or four times, then gave up and bought myself a copy. It was The Only Book I used, and I highly recommend it.

19.
Meghan says:

Vintage wedding books, circa 1950s and 60s. We are having a vintage inspired wedding and want a lot of true to the era touches.

Websites: I dig The Knot for it’s basic Budgeting tool and Guest List organizer. I also considered WedShare for it’s awesome online RSVP capability - if only it had a template that fit my colors!

Magazines: The Knot Nothern California, Martha Stewart Weddings, InStyle Weddings, Modern Bride, Sacramento Bride and Nothern California Bride.

Books: The best wedding planner by far, The Bride’s Essential Wedding Planner - Deluze Edition, is not covered in inspiring color photographs - but instead, contains lists of extensive questions for every single vendor you could need. Twice now, I’ve gotten comments by vendors stating that I’ve asked questions that people don’t think to ask of. These lists left me feeling absolutely confident when I choose a vendor because I know I’ve coverd every single base I could!

my faves:

1) magazines: martha stewart weddings

2) websites: http://www.brideboard.com for nyc vendor listings and reviews

http://www.fireyourweddingplanner.com/ emails and book gave me a good first look at the wedding industry and things to be aware of, as well as questions to ask vendors.
