Holiday Cards

September 28th, 2007 @ 3:42 pm by Mrs. Raspberry

As I am sure you know, many couples send out holiday cards that have a picture from their wedding their first year together. It’s a great time to start your list of recipients now, and put that massive spreadsheet from the wedding guest list to use! I just finished designing ours and am debating between two styles, and was hoping you can help.

Thanks!!!

Which card do you like better?

They are both festive, but I like #2 better!

Alexa says:

I can’t choose - they are both adorable. I would love it if you posted about how you made these!

It’s OK to make various kinds — Great way to use up whatever leftover paper you have around. They don’t have to be identical.

Though, black holiday cards need a little extra oomph so they don’t border on morbid.

I like the front of option one and the inside of option two. They are super cute!

I like both, but I like the chocolate brown of the second one a smidge better. It seems more holiday-like.

Oohh– I love these both, but I like the first one better.

I think #2 shows off your picture better (versus the picture against the green), but they both look lovely.

#2 is definitely better - and being the photographer/designer that I am, I’d be bold enough to tell you that you don’t really need the patterned border around either one - it distracts from what is a lovely and timeless photograph. The photo with just the plain gold edge is great!

i voted #2. I love the cover and the dark background.

I like Option #2 outside but with the Option #1 inside.

uh-oh! It’s neck and neck! I really like the first one, because the lighter color of the inside might lend itself better to writing an add’l note, if you’d like. Of course, perhaps I say that, because i have the worst luck with metallic or otherwise gel pens that always dry up on me after two uses.

Besides that, I really like the texture of the paper and the crisp border of the green. The bow on the inside is super-cute, too.

I second Melanie’s suggestion - #2 outside but #1 inside. Also won’t it be easier for you to write something inside on a lighter coloured background? I love the colour paper of #2 but I think it would be hard for people to see what you wrote.

Both totally scream Holidays…Option #1 is fun and playful with the simple green background and the vibrant red bow, the simplicity complients the photo so well! While option #2 is a bit more glamorous with the black and gold. But, I have to agree with annieoakley about the patterned border around the photo in option #2.

Just an idea…take the inside of card #1, but with gold ribbon, and combine it with a patternless front of card #2.

silly thoughts!! :)

I LOVE #1! It’s so organic and it goes great with the natural setting of your background and wedding. #2 looks a little *too* fancy for such a fun, playful picture.

Thanks so much for all your help!

I will play with mixing the inside and outsides and post more!

I voted for #2, because I like the front of it better (draws more attention to the great photo!), but I agree with some who would like to see it combined with the inside of #1!

I like number two better, but I agree with others that it doesn’t need the patterned border. Simple might be better in this case!
