Make Your Own Wedding Rings!

September 28th, 2007 @ 5:04 pm by Ms. Dahlia

I just came across this amazing place. New York Wedding Ring, located in both New York and in San Francisco, lets you make your own wedding ring or engagement ring. How cool is that? The price strikes me as being a bit on the high side, but think about how awesome it would be to tell the grandkids that not only is your wedding ring completely original (you can design it yourself), but that you also made it with your own hands?

Now, these rings definitely do not look “homemade” at all.

In case you didn’t notice, you have the opportunity to make rings in palladium, in addition to gold and platinum. So not only can you DIY, but you can DIY out of a really awesome metal as well. If Mr. Dahlia and I were located on either coast (alas! we are not, but will be in the next five years if all goes according to plan), we would definitely consider doing this.

How do you feel about making your own wedding ring?

I think that it would be a great story to have and also be something that you and your guy could do together.

I agree…they don’t look home made at all (much better than my 5th grade bead ring anyhow)

I think that is the neatest thing. At first site, I thought the price was high, but it is for two rings, not just one.

My fiance’s wedding band retails for $1750, no diamonds, I thought that was high, and was lucky to find a sale for $1350.

so for two rings for $2200 isn’t too bad. and it is so fun to be able to create them yourself!

I just noticed that they also do engagement rings.

Romantic thought: what would be sweeter than your guy making the ring he’d propose to you with?

Practical thought: As long as he paid attention to what you wanted/what size you were of course.

my best friend made her husband’s wedding ring. they have a shop class at the school she taught at so after collecting scrap gold pieces from both sides of the family, the shop teacher helped her melt it down, make the mold and ring and even sanded it down and shined it up. she took it somewhere else to have it engraved. but it looked great and i love the personal story that came along with it. she did sand it down too much in one part but it’s not noticable at all [she had to point it out to me] and she figured that marriage isn’t perfect so that’s symbollized by the ring not being perfect. ha!

the groom loved it.

I think that is a great idea. We’re doing something similar in that we’re making our wedding rings out of diamonds that have been given to us by my fiancé’s father and step-mother. We’re going to chose the setting that we like best and place these special diamonds in the rings. Although we’re not making the rings by hand, we’re excited by how personal they will be.

We designed our engagement ring together but had it made by a jeweler. The amazing thing was, it wasn’t very much more expensive than anything that we were looking at that would have been right from the cases! AND we definitely love that it’s a completely original design that we feel is absolutely reflective of us as a couple. :) Designing the ring was fun, a really awesome bonding experience and I would recommend it to anyone.

It’s not original. It started in London. I saw it first at http://www.weddingringworkshop.co.uk.

Does anyone know of places in Maine to make your own wedding rings? I’ve searched, but no luck so far. :/
