Mrs. Kiwi, Los Angeles Age and Occupation in 06: 27, Bookkeeper Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, P.E. Teach/Coach @ private schools in LA Engagement Date: March 31, 2006 Wedding Date: November 3, 2007 Venue: Radisson Hotel About Me: I'm a bookkeeper who failed high school algebra. I'm currently living in Los Angeles, literally a street over from where I grew up with Mr. Kiwi, my honey of three years. We have a jumbo mini-dachshund (seriously, he's huuuuge), and we're planning an autumn themed wedding on a shoestring, paid for by ourselves. The wedding date is my late grandma's birthday, I needed her there somehow, and that seemed like the best way for us. I can't believe I'm a Bee! I couldn't be more proud!

Money Help

September 28th, 2007 @ 1:25 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

I’ve been reminding (ahem, nagging) Mr. Kiwi to get his suit. With 36 days to go, we kind of need to get going on that. I wasn’t worried about my dad’s suit- he’s pretty easy to size off the rack. Mr. Kiwi, on the other hand, is a XXXL size, and about 6’2″, with thighs (muscular) the size of hams. I call them his “foghorn leghorns”, in reference to the Looney Toons character.

Anyway, this means Mr. Kiwi will likely need alterations, and won’t be able to wear anything right off the rack. Due to a series of football games and tournaments, the plan of him going with his brother this Sunday has turned into Mr. Kiwi scoping out the local Men’s Wearhouse during the upcoming week, to meet with best man/future brother in law on Saturday to get the suits. This leaves a little less than a month to get the suit and to have any alterations made. Hopefully that’ll be enough time!

We’ve been blessed, though. Future brother in law is going to buy Mr. Kiwi’s suit. This is taking a HUGE weight off our shoulders. We’re sitting here counting the totals, and going, “Soooo, do you think XXXX XXXX will finally pay you that $1,000.00 from July?” along with me taking a cat-sitting job for four cats. I’m asthmatic and deathly allergic to cats. Still, it’s $120.00 we can definitely use! Sure, the catholes have already broken a mirror and managed to open cabinets- spilling crap everywhere (how do they DO that? They don’t have thumbs!), but it’s money we can use.

Thankfully, our floral quote is $150.00 less than we budgeted, which adds a little bit more to the pot of “money we don’t have to scrape up.” With the amounts we have left, we’re going to rent a vest/tie combo from After Hours formal wear for the three guys, which I’ll post about later.

Have you gotten surprised with little bonuses and money help?

YES! My fiance’s aunt sent us a card yesterday with a check in it as sort of an engagement gift/help you pay for wedding expenses.

Every dollar helps out so much.

I wish!

And I wish guests who gave us gift cards had thought of just giving us checks instead….

Don’t get me wrong, we are grateful — and wrote all the thank you notes ASAP — but it would have been nice to be able to spend it on what we needed more, ya know? It wouldn’t have cost them anything more.

My FFIL gave us a sweet check for our shower and when my mom saw that the final head count is going to be about 25 less than we expected, she offered to foot the entire catering bill instead of the portion of it she had originally offered! We thought we were going to be pinching pennies until the day of the wedding, but we are about $1000 ahead with 22 days to go. I’ve been in the best mood because of that…
Oh, and I got a raise the other day and it is already in my paycheck. Awesome.

We never would have been able to have everything we wanted if it hadn’t been for my three bosses. They got us my flowers, the limo, the honeymoon suite, makeup, hair, and nails.

I had no idea how I was going to handle hair. Makeup would have probably been done by my mom and flowers were just going to come from a local farmer’s market with us trying to learn to make boutineers at the last minute. Limo and honeymoon suite weren’t even in our plans.

Thank goodness for those wonderful people in our lives!

I fell in love with a bridesmaid dress and of course it was more than I wanted my girls to spend. The other day my dad offered to put $100 towards each of their dresses so that I could pick what I really wanted. Not money I’ll see but has helped relieving the stress of finding the right dress for my girls!
