Want to create your own monogram but don’t know how to go about it? Here’s a simple (and free!) way to create a monogram using Microsoft Word and MS Paint:
Step 1: Open MS Word and navigate to “Insert“, then from the drop down menu, choose “Textbox”
Step 2: Draw three boxes, roughly the size you think you’d like each initial. Typically, people like to have their first name initials small, and their last initial larger. Don’t worry, these can always be resized and moved.
Step 3: Right click on each individual box and choose: “Format Text Box”

Step 4: For all 3 text boxes, format them accordingly:
“Fill- No Fill”
as well as
“Line- No Line”
Step 5: Type in your Monogram in each of the boxes. Change the fonts and sizes as you like. The boxes you originally made can be resized and moved easily.

Step 6: When the monogram is to your liking, select all the letters by clicking each one holding the Shift key. Now right click all 3 highlighted letters and choose “Grouping” then “Group” to lock the letters in place.

Step 7: You should now be able to copy and paste this monogram into MS Paint. Highlighting the whole sequence is a bit tricky, you have to click on one of the letters first, then”Ctrl+Click” on another letter to highlight the whole monogram. Hit “Ctrl+C” (Copy), open MS Paint, and hit “Ctrl+V” (Paste).
You can now save your monogram as a jpeg, tiff, or gif. Just Click “File” then “Save As” and use whatever format you like.
There are a lot less complicated methods of making monograms, but this is the easiest way to do it using resources that most people already have. I’ve tried using MS Paint, but that darned program is a lot less user friendly than MS Word.
Hello! You’re awesome!
