After 3 days of intense slaving, I finally finished my DIY aisle runner. Here’s the step by step and what I used to create this 55 foot masterpiece:

So in scanning the globe, I came across an amazing place. ::drumroll::
I present to you Option 1: Amuleto.
High up on the cliffs overlooking Zihuatanejo Bay, Amuleto seemed like the perfect place to get away from it all and relish in being married. With solid tripadvisor ratings, it seemed perfect. Pricey, at about $400 USD/night, not counting tax and gratuity, but it looks perfect. Consider one of the main suites:

I was so grateful that Mr. Jasmine made sure to propose privately. Even though that kind of proposal isn’t really part of our South Asian culture, he knew that it was an important part of my American culture. Like most women brought up in the United States, I’d been dreaming of my proposal my whole life!
Today I’m wearing underpants that reach an inch over my bellybutton and an inch below the ’cheeks. No, I have not retired to Florida with the wedding fund- I’ve got my first real fitting after work today! As I mentioned before, my dress was very large in the boob area. So my seamstress was going to have to rip the sides asunder and fit it to me when I go in next. This was about a month ago, and she just started tearing apart the sides yesterday. Yeaaah.
Anyway, I’m in the office now, wearing my mega-panties and breaking in my shoes. I love my shoes. Mr. Kiwi told me to wear something for my fitting similar to what I’ll wear for the wedding. When I put on my long panties, he said, “oh, is that what you’re wearing the day of?” To which I responded, “No! (read: maybe I am, got a problem with that?!) Why am I listening to him anyway?
So, here’s my pants. They’re actually pink, which I think makes them that much cuter!

I’ve just realized I haven’t bought a crinoline yet. I should probably get to that, at some point.

Mr. Hummingbird and I met in a mall. That sounds kind of lame, but it’s true. We met at a Second Cup in a mall near my parents’ house in The Saug (a suburb outside of Toronto). The meeting had been pre-arranged after we “met” and talked on the Internet for the month prior. It was a very weird thing.
This was partially because I was in a weird place in my life. I had just split from a boyfriend not too long before and I was still working the crappy retail job that I’d worked for the past three years to pay for college, so pretty much my whole life felt transient. Although I really liked the way Mr. Hummingbird sounded in e-mails, would it be as good in person and was I ready to be pulled into a relationship if that was the way things went?
Our first meeting was also kind of weird in that when I sat down to have coffee with him, it was kind of like sitting down next to someone you’ve known your whole life. The conversation was easy, we had a very similar sense of humour and we both seemed interested in what the other person was saying.
One of the things that led me to our photographer, Daria Bishop, was her photojournalistic style. Now I know that is a phrase that is so over used these days (much like bridezilla) it’s all but lost its meaning. But Daria is really a photojournalist — she free lances for the Burlington Free Press. We didn’t fill out any “must take” photos list, we didn’t have to sit for endless posed portraits, it was great. In fact, we were running late before the ceremony and took all the family/wedding party photos in 10 minutes then it was off to the church!
That being said, I only have a few photos from Daria so I’m going to also share some more photos taken by our family and friends.
Beautiful Bridesmaids

This Monday a new season of The Bachelor started on ABC. Unfortunately, I’ve got to admit that I watch it every year, despite fully realizing it’s pretty much a wasted hour of every week. I love to see them fall in love…even if it is a short-lived TV sort of love. Also, this weekend, one of Mr. Chickadee and my good friends went on a date set-up by a popular dating website.
Together, these two facts have got me thinking about ways to meet significant others. Mr. Chickadee and I have an unoriginal story, as we went to high school together. However, our relationship really took off after talking a LOT online. It was really a way for me to get to know shy Mr. Chickadee before we started dating.
So, what’s your dating story? Did you meet in any interesting circumstances? Any internet set-ups out there? Tell me how your love story started!
What to do about the music for the ceremony….Hmmm…
I know I haven’t really gotten into all the meaty, nitty gritty details of our wedding day yet, but I’m going to jump ahead with a brief overview of our Chinese Banquet the next day.
That Sunday morning, we had brunch at my parents house with most of my extended out-of-town family. It was rushed but fun, and we were still exhilarated (and pooped) from our wedding the night before. Then I frantically went to Zazu Salon in Hinsdale and had my hair done by TJ, having never even met the stylist, let alone having done a trial with her! But I just crossed my fingers and figured it would be fine. I was right, A+ for TJ! I decided to go with a “low, messy, bun” (my exact descriptor words to her) since I had my hair half up/half down for my Saturday wedding. Actually, my first reaction when TJ finished was, “Hrmm, I think this updo makes me look OLD.” But then I realized it worked very nicely with my traditional Chinese chi pao.

Not the greatest picture, but this was taken right after we arrived at his parents’ house.
I posted earlier about how weird it is that I should tell people what to wear to my wedding. The ladies standing up for me all have exceptional (and decidedly different) tastes. That said, given that I was thinking about how burgundy/red would be fabulous for people to wear, it made the most sense to pick some sort of common color. Different shades of blue can look absolutely lovely together.

Hi there, Weddingbee readers. Mr. Corn and I are finally back from Italy and we had a wonderful, wonderful time. We started out on the Island of Capri and visited Sorrento and Pompeii. Then we had a quick jaunt through Naples to find the most amazing pizza ever for lunch before hopping on a train to Rome. After a few days we headed to Orvieto, thanks to weddingbee reader, Tracinda, who sent us a suggestion to go there a few months ago. We stayed there overnight and then rented a car and drove through the Tuscan hillsides to Florence, where we hopped a train to Venice where we stayed for the remainder of our trip.
It was so great to be able to go away for a long enough time to forget what day of the week it was. It was also really, really great to spend so much time with Mr. Corn since he travels during the week for work so we normally only get the weekends together.
Below are some highlight pics. I hope all of your wedding plans are continuing to go well and much congratulations to you ladies who have gotten hitched since I have been away.

I’m the type of person that hates to ask for help. My reasoning, as much as I know my friends are more than willing to help me in a bind, I hate to trouble people. I am more than happy to help my friends but I feel uncomfortable asking. This is not to say that I’ve never asked for help, I just try to ask only when I really need it.
And if I do ask, I say please please please a million times and thank you a million times afterwards because I am very appreciative of any little thing anyone does for me, I like to go out of my way to let them I’m grateful.

Is anyone as excited as I am for the upcoming Sex and the City movie? Although my dating life was not nearly as exciting as Carrie, Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte, I loved living vicariously through them. And I found that I could relate to some of the issues they faced: money problems, break-ups, balancing career and relationships, etc. And I’ve especially enjoyed the misadventures of Miranda and Charlotte as they embarked upon marriage and encountered all the new challenges and happiness that it can bring.
…continued from here and here.
(Mr. Magnolia, you don’t want to read this one!)
Bright and early the next morning, my Maid of Honor joined us for the last two stops on my list.
LaRaine’s Boutique is in the Virginia-Highland area of Atlanta, which is one of my favorite spots in the city. In terms of store setup, LaRaine’s almost a complete 180 from Saks and Priscilla of Boston — it’s packed full of dresses from many different designers, there’s not really much order to the vast selection, and I would describe the general vibe as more casual than sophisticated. However, the people who work there have a very welcoming attitude, and the shop reflects that. I immediately hit it off with my salesperson, Brooke, and we began to pull out dresses in every style imaginable for me to try on. Read more…
June 28th, 2007. The day that Mr. Peony proposed to me started as one of the worst in my life. The office was in chaos because a close coworker’s mother had been killed in a freak car accident (it was all over the news). When this coworker told us that she had decided to move out of the country because staying here was too painful, my mind just glazed over.
During my long commute home from work, the skies opened up to thunderous rain and I got soaked running from the train to the car. However, I still had some errands to run and I drove around for more than a hour, running from place to place with no umbrella, with the car windows closed in the boiling heat of the summer because the AC was busted.
