About Mrs. Strawberry

Son. Of. A. Bitch.

That’s mighty strong language, I know. But in this case, necessary. Like Mrs. Emerald, Mr. Strawberry and I recently tried to complete our registry. Easier said than done. I was very conscious not to register for too much “stuff” so as not to appear greedy. Well, guests griped that we didn’t have enough stuff. So, I added more. A lot that we actually didn’t need. Things like blankets, vases, picture frames and such. We received almost everything on our registry from Macy’s. Restoration Hardware–not so much. So a shopping we did go.

Almost everything left that we needed was discontinued! SONOFABITCH! Thankfully there were variations of things we wanted. But it’s not the same! Am I the only one that likes discontinued things? I’ve convinced myself that my taste must be too fabulous and everything I selected just flew off the shelf.

I almost never step foot into Restoration Hardware. But for some random reason we walked into one last week. And I fell in LOVE with their luxurious bedding!! I am so tempted to buy a pale blue/chocolate brown duvet cover and matching pillow cases, but the whole set would run us $400+, not including the freakin sheets! Rather steep, so I dunno if we can bite the bullet… =(

yes, I have the discontinued disease. Doc and I have decided to hold off on registering for linens and such until next spring when we think it will be more safe for those to be in stock and on the shelf for our guests to purchase.

My china best not be discontinued before next June. If so, I’ll be tempted to beat the crap out of someone. It took us forever to agree on a pattern.

Our Macy’s registry was also WAY more popular than the other registries.

We registered at Crate & Barrel. That was a mistake. Nearly everything we registered for is now discontinued! I keep having to update our registry. It is such a pain. I’m afraid we’re going to end up with mishmashed everything.

We registered at Crate and Barrel and Pottery Barn…almost everything is discontinued now that our wedding is near. What a pain!

i love the colors in the dishware! i think i’m just a fan of that blueish-green to begin with. so pretty! i’d be bummed to. it takes a lot of time and effort to pick things out for the registry only to have them discontinued…ugh.

I went to a wedding a couple of years ago where darn near everything was discontinued by the time I got around to shopping (about a week before the wedding), but I was vindicated at the wedding, where other guests were complaining that half the list was discontinued a week after the list was made available.

It’s a sneaky-pants tatic that alot of retailers have to make you buy more stuff - some style of something goes discontinued (like a glass), and you break one of your set of six, intstead of buying one (slightly altered, but still different) new style, you buy six new glasses. It’s a total racket, I know. Things that are colored (unfournately) are the WORST things to register for, since everybody updates seasonally (Crate, WS, RH)

Still sucks though. =)

Registries are a pain in the ass really. I had the same problem, and I got doubles of lots of things too … annoying. I started to wish that I myself was discontinued after awhile.

i too have the discontinued disease.. with more than just registry items too. i’ve had to stop picking favorite scents at places like bath and body works b/c my favs always get discontinued.

as for the registry i made back when we thought we had a date picked out, almost everything will be gone by the time we actually get married since we have put off the wedding until fiance finishes school. i’m hoping to find a way to get the china i want before it’s discontinued b/c it took me forever to find something we both liked, and i love the pattern! one thing i know will still be there is the silverware pattern we picked out b/c onieda has a lifetime guarantee on their patterns! :)

after so many of our registry items were discontinued at bloomies early on the game, we just decided to discontinue our registry there. either we have good taste and it’s all being sold out, or we have bad taste so they no longer want to carry it! ;)

My crystal water goblets are no longer available on the website :( …..I’m hoping and praying that doesn’t mean they’re not available in the store. We received all the wine glasses - I gotta have the goblets to match!

I feel your pain. I am NOTORIOUS for loving things (perfume, flatware, candy bars, linens, you name it), only to have it become discontinued and impossible to find. I bought a bunch of modular bookcase pieces from Storehouse with the intention of completing the unit later on when I had more money. When I went in to buy the remaining add-ons, I found that he whole store/company was going out of business and there was no possible way to get the pieces I wanted. Ugh.

And it makes DH nuts. It’s like he thinks I do it on purpose.

Thank heavens for Ebay!
