Tea For Two

October 1st, 2007 @ 12:44 pm by Mrs. Radish

I may need an Anthropologie intervention soon. I can’t seem to NOT buy something whenever I’m near there. It’s shameful, really.

Back in the spring I went in there to get my rehearsal dinner dress, and I found these adorable little teacups that I just couldn’t resist buying. I got 2 of them at $12 each, which isn’t really very expensive, but I still felt the need to justify this unwarranted purchase — so I made them wedding related! That way Mr. Radish couldn’t chastise me for buying something we didn’t need because I could say, “It’s for the wedding.” He never seems to know how to counter that argument. He just gives me a suspicious look and says, “Okay… I hope it wasn’t expensive.” Poor little guy; he stands no chance against my Anthropologie addiction.

I decided that I would use these tea cups in our sweetheart table place setting, since we have a very loose bird theme. Plus we had an afternoon reception, so it totally made sense to me to have them on the table. They also make nice keepsakes from the wedding, and I think I’m going to plant some little flowers or something in them and display them on a shelf near our wedding picture.

Has anyone else turned the wedding into an excuse for buying something that you really liked, but didn’t necessarily need?

I went to an antique store and just had to have a decades old wooden strawberry flat. It had great coloring and an old worn handle. We were having a farm wedding, so I thought I could make it make sense.

We ended up not using it….the handle got in the way of everything I came up with. And it sat in the garage for our wedding.

On the plus side, I got to use it to hold programs for my cousin’s wedding. Does that count? :)

Actually, I was just the opposite — trying to keep under budget so we could save more for something else. Seriously, it was like, “Do we really NEED flowers?” At least these teacups are something you’ll have long-term, HA! Good luck!

A Gocco!!! I’ve wanted one for at least a year, and wedding invites are finally the perfect excuse. :-) (But I didn’t really NEED it for the invites. A printer and some rubber stamps would work just as well…. Just don’t tell Mr. Tulip that!)

I worked the iPod into ‘wedding expenses’ :) I could have put the music on CD’s to be played through the B&B sounds system - but the iPod made it so much easier :) I’m still lovin it! The bonus is I can listen to my wedding play lists whenever I want :)

I don’t even want to think about all of the things that I have rationalized that way!

And I also want to sympathize with your Anthropologie addiction! Maybe our men could form some sort of support group…

FYI - since I know you are conscious about this stuff…”Urban Outfitters founder and President Richard Hayne, acknowledges that the company and its affiliates — Anthropologie and Free People — use non-union overseas sewing shops” aka sweatshops…
