In 1971, Georgia Gerber, a local sculptor, created the bronze piggy bank, Rachel, as a fundraiser for Pike’s Place Market. Since that time, Rachel has raised over $120,000. In 2001, Gerber created a mold for the first Pigs on Parade. Celebrating the Market’s centennial, the pigs decorate street corners throughout the city. 100 to be exact.
