Dial M For Marriage?

Dial M For Marriage? : wedding palm springs stationery tabletop Hitchco

I love Hitchcock. His films continue to be some of the greatest ever made. He takes the genre of suspense to a new level. So…naturally…it follows that he should take my wedding to the next level.

Okay, follow me on this one. I haven’t lost it….well, that’s irrelevant. It all started in the fall of 2002. I was enrolled in the Hitchcock class and Mr. Peppermint would sneak in to watch the movies (as well as muster the courage to talk to me!). I won’t go into all of the details, but eventually he approached me after class–which, by the way, got out at 11pm and after seeing some of those movies I was a little nervous to talk to strangers! Nonetheless, we started dating and the rest is history…

Movies have been a major part of our life. Not only do we both share a passion for them, but it was always something we enjoyed doing together. I definitely want to incorporate that love of film into our wedding, but I also don’t want something cheesy (sorry, no clapboards for me!). One idea I’ve been thinking about is table names. Rather than doing table numbers, we could have them named after different Hitchcock movies Mr. Peppermint & I have watched together. I mean, who wouldn’t want to sit at the Psycho table?!? Plus, the posters are really a piece of art in themselves. Here’s one of my faves:

Once I started going on this Hitchcock table kick, I thought, “What if we made the table escort cards ticket stubs with the movie name of their table on them?” I’m wondering if I’ve lost it–I’m definitely way too excited about this prospect. Although, while I think it could look cute, I don’t want it to be tacky. It really would depend on the design of the ticket stub… I’ve been looking for online inspiration!

Here’s one I found online for an invitation made by Fine Stationery:
Dial M For Marriage? : wedding palm springs stationery tabletop Ticket
Or maybe in the mold of this rare Beatles ticket stub:

Dial M For Marriage? : wedding palm springs stationery tabletop Ticket01

Is the ticket stub idea too much? We’d be designing it ourselves and (hopefully) could keep it classy looking. :-) .READERS, I need your help!! What should I do? Have I indeed lost it??

You have not lost it! I love your movie title table name idea and correlating old time tickets.

You can even do movie theater popcorn at the end of the night for guests to take with them on the road.

I agree don’t go overboard with the clap boards. I am a movie fiend, but unfortunately my fiance does not share that passion with me. I love some older movies and reference them a lot and he looks at me like I am from outer space. Have fun with it :)

I think the ticket stubs would be creative and fun, and perfectly classy if they end up at all like your examples…. And I *love* it as a new twist on leading people to their tables!!

Glamour This! by Kelly

Oh finally someone doing something similar to me… or wants to at least. I think its a great idea… and I would go for it.

My theme is vintage glam (so movies from the 30s Oscar) So I will try my best to incorporate glam and the movies.
I will buy vintage 16mm movie rolls and use those as my table numbers… I will play a silent black and white movie up on a wall to add atmosphere to the night… Enough about me…

You can use Hitchcock inspired place cards and with your table numbers it will fit perfectly. Popcorn is a great idea.
Check out my post: http://glamourthis.wordpress.com/2007/09/11/the-new-candy-buffet/

Could be a really interesting idea for you. Good luck with that… and if ever you need suggestions, I would be happy to help you out :D

I think it’s a great idea!

Movie quotes, popcorn, a “feature” love story of the two of you, red carpet into the venue…now I can get carried away. :)

Oh and instead of a guest book, it could be an autograph album with small glossy black and white engagement pictures of you and your guy that say “all the best” or some such autograph message.

Okay, I’ll stop now. :)

OK, I don’t know what Angel does for a living, but seriously good wedding ideas lately!

I love it Miss PP: those Hithcock posters are to die for and the ticket stub idea is darling. I’m sure you could totally make it work. I always like the idea of making something completely your own and reflective of who you two are.

Love the tickets idea. I guess Hitchcock films have a certain theme… but I might be selective about which movies; not all seem particularly wedding-appropo, for example:

Easy Virtue (1927 - Silent)
Starring: Isabel Jeans and Ian Hunter
Drama of a woman torn between her alcoholic husband and suicidal lover.

I’m not sure about the idea of “tickets” to a wedding, but I like the movie idea!

Absolutely not! A marriage is about the couple and in my opinion the more you can do to integrate your personalities and the things that make you happy as a couple - the better! I love the idea.

An invitation sets the mood for an event. And if you were to receive an invite that looks like every other invite that’s been mailed to you over the past few years, you’re not going to be very excited. If I got movie tickets as an invite to a wedding, it would create anticipation and get my attention.

I have to warn you though… I’m not a traditionalist.

Congrats & good luck!

I say go for it! Of course, we were engaged on a roller coaster at our favorite amusement park so we named all of our tables after coasters we have ridden together, had a roller coaster cake (typical tiered cake with a track around and through it) and had specialty roller coaster themed drinks. We worried a lot about keeping it classy, but fun and from everyone’s comments we succeeded. My favorite was that everyone kept saying how personal and “us” the day was. Isn’t that what a weddign is supposed to be? :)

Seating at the Psycho table… I LOVE it!

I really like this Idea, I actually kicked it around myself for awhile, It’s a very fun one to come up with idea’s for! I Like the poster table names and really like the ticket stub idea. I definatly think they can be done in a classy way. I wish I still had the the one’s I collected online, I deleted them after I changed themes.

You could also make a custom poster of you and your groom for your table!
Popcorn …. yummy!

It’s not crazy, as long as it really represents you and your guy.

Check this site out for inspiration: http://www.lovestoryweddings.com/movie%20poster%20banana%20album/index.html. They do photography, but also specialize in designing “movie posters” that feature the couple. (Haven’t used them, nor do I know anyone who has.) It’s a little on the cheesy side, but you could do arty photos (the kind of grungier work that a lot of people do for Trash the Dress sessions) that imitate your favorite films, instead of doing the “romance film” style.

Miss P! Doppelganger Annie here - as usual, I love your ideas! I have way too many movie type people coming to our wedding (on Sunday!) but the FI and I are just as obsessed with music, so we incorporated some of our favorite album covers. I’m just trying to decide if I want my parents to it at the “Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots” or the “Joshua Tree” table. I made cards using MOO (cropped portions of covers) - but tragically, they have not arrived in the mail, so I’m going to be designing them again myself in PS this week. Saul Bass did alot of Hitchcock posters and they are definitely works of art. Go for the vintage stubs!
