What Type of Bride Are You?

October 3rd, 2007 @ 4:45 pm by Mrs. Peony

I once read that there are three types of brides:

  1. The people-pleaser who drives herself crazy trying to please everyone else
  2. The princess who knows what she wants and doesn’t consider others’ opinions
  3. The wreck, who needs as much help as she can get

Obviously these don’t portray brides in the best light, and some may even be offended to read this. But if you had to choose one, which bride do you think you are?

I’m definitely the people-pleaser, losing sleep and making sacrifices in order to please everyone. I know it’s my day and I should do what makes me happy. But I’ve always been one of those people who can’t bear the thought of someone disapproving my actions or choices.

If you disagree with the three categories above, can you think of any others?

oh i’m sooo #1… many of my decisions are to please and impress my guests. i totally have had to give myself pep talks to tell me that it’s okay to not have this and that and everything else!

If I had to choose, I would go with the princess. I am paying for everything myself, so I feel entitled to doing everything my way.

I am none of the above - I like to think of myself as the nonchalent bride. I just refuse to put that much effort into what will inevetably be only 5 hours of my life.

I think I’m mostly type 1 since I like to entertain people. But when it comes to certain pieces of the wedding (like invitations), I find I start acting like type #2.

im number 3 for certain.
i’ve had so many tiny break downs.
hah, that sounds awful. but its true. i’m planning my wedding from two states away and on a very limited budget.

i try hard to be #4 tho, the nonchalent bride who doesnt care one smidgen of a bit and yet effortlessly achieves a classicly elegant yet endearingly charming wedding for… 100 people possibly? because she only has 1/3 of her rsvp’s back and the due date was monday!!

aaah!

I’m number #1 for sure. I have given up a lot of things I originally wanted to please the future in laws :(

ooooooooh i was so thinking about writing about this. Me - I am so very #1. I am a people pleaser, but I’ve learn to be a moderate #2, as in Mr. CB and I have agreed to take in people’s opinions but ultimately choose what makes us both happy (in consideration with the ‘rents) of course. :D

I like how Miss Cherry Blossom put it - I’m a moderate # 2. While I’m being open minded to others opinions, ultimately it is our day and we are doing things we want to make it special for us and our parents.

I’m #1 for sure. I smell a poll — ask Mrs. Bee to make this a poll for you — inquiring minds want to know. Also more people will click a button than actually comment on a post ;)

I was probably #2 but I definitely took other people’s opinions into considerations. Does it count that I thought about them and then did it my own way?

People pleaser totally. I dont want anyone to have to help me pull this thing off…not cause i dont LOVE help but because i dont like asking for it. Hence, its 8 months till wedding and i already have 1/2 my DIY crap done :)

I’m a hybrid of people pleaser and princess! I am trying to do a lot of things to keep guests happy and keep my parents happy, but I know when to put my foot down and insist on something if it’s very important to me. I don’t really think that makes me a “princess” though, everyone has to have their priorities and then compromise on the other things. I’ve been pretty easygoing about most things.

It depended on what day you caught me. One day, I was agonizing guests being bored. Another day I would be putting my foot down on something because it was my wedding and I was paying for it. And then there were the days that someone had to intervene and give me a dose a reality (no you can’t have a destination wedding on a Friday and expect everyone to make it).

So I’d say it was a lottery.

I think I’ll go apologize to all the people who were there for that.

I think I’m the Antibride. There are days when I’d like to please those around me and days when I want to do things to spite them, but every single day, I just want to be married and have a nice wedding that my groom and I like, that I don’t have to spend that much time thinking about, and that will still be fun and memorable.

I’m a mix of 1 and 2-I’m trying to do things so that people will like them-as in a good DJ, good food, nice location, convenience…but I also want what I want and I’m not willing to change my mind once I’ve made it. That said, I’m open to suggestions…but I make the final decisions!

I used to be #1, but now I’m the bride who would happily walk down the aisle with flowers from a grocery store picked up on the way to the church, hehe! I blame #1 for doing that to me…

those are the choices? the writer must not like women very much - all of the descriptions make brides sound like crazy drama queens.

I was none of those…? Our families didn’t feel the need to offer much input (thankfully) so I didn’t have to “please” them. We kept our planning to ourselves so that made it easier!

Where did my comment go?

I was none of the above. His parents requested the separate Chinese Banquet, and so they had no requirements for our actual wedding. My parents paid for our wedding reception, and their only request was the venue, but that was fine cuz it was our first choice venue anyways.

We kept the rest of the planning to ourselves to avoid too many opinions and “You should do….” or “You should NOT do…” I knew exactly what I wanted, and so Mr. E and stuck to our (my) vision!!

I am definitely a #1, but so far so good haven’t had any major meltdowns and have pretty much still gotten everything that is important to me done my way :)
