Part One: Kauai
Our Hawaiian honeymoon came and went in a blink of an eye! We only had 7 days to split between two islands, Kauai and Maui, so I really wish we had the luxury of a two week honeymoon! I decided to list some prices to hopefully help anyone considering some of these activities. Please keep in mind that the prices I list are intended only to give you an idea of the approximate cost. Actual pricing will vary depending on how you book/who you book through!
Day 1 - Monday
We lost the entire day traveling. Between waiting at the airport, flying time, layover in LAX, getting lost on the dark winding Kauai roads in a rain storm, we traveled for about 15 hours and were pooped when we arrived!
Day 2 - Tuesday
We were ready to jump head-first into our adventure! First on the itinerary: Zip lining with Kauai Backcountry. This was seriously fun, and after the first zip, the rest are easy! You are strapped into a harness and one staff member sends you off, and another one catches you on the other side. The lines range from 700 to 900+ feet each, but it literally only takes a few seconds to get across. I highly recommend Kauai Backcountry. They had great tourguides who were both fun and informational, and they made sure that we did everything safely. The whole outting lasted about 4 hours and they fed us a casual but tasty lunch of sandwiches, chips and cookies. Cost: Approx $100/person
All geared up and ready to zip.
Action shot: Holy Craaaaaaap! (You just strap your camera to your wrist and snap away as you fly)
Day 3 - Wednesday
Obviously we couldn’t get enough of heights cuz we went on a helicopter ride the day after the zip lining! (Can you tell we really wanted to be adventurous on this trip?
) Our concierge recommended Safari Helicopters, and we were not disappointed. There is SO much of Kauai that you just cannot see from the ground or by driving! The helicopter seated 6 passengers, and we were lucky enough to sit in the front next to the pilot. The pilot also acted as tourguide and he explained the different areas we flew over. Of course we all had to wear headsets since it was so loud. The funny thing was that they played dramatic movie soundtracks such as Jurassic Park (shot in Kauai) and Indiana Jones through our headsets, so the whole ride seemed so much more dramatic! Cost: Approx $155 per person

Looking super cool in our head gear!
The breathtaking Na Pali Coast.
Later that day… what trip to Hawaii is complete without a Luau? We chose Smith’s Family Luau (doesn’t sound very Hawaiian, but they explain the history behind that!). Overall, the private compound was lovely, the food was tasty and the show was entertaining. We weren’t blown away by the fabulousness of it all or anything, and we probably won’t go to another one if we come back in the future, but at least we can say we’ve been to a luau! Cost: Approx $65/person

Lots of birds on the premises… birds freak me out, no joke.
Ceremoniously digging up the pig from its underground oven. It was yummy!
Day 4 - Thursday
Our last day in Kauai… it truly is paradise!!
Mr. E snickered everytime we drove by these trees… I can see why though ![]()
Kauai is expensive!! $8.45 for a gallon of milk?! No thanks!
On the small propeller plane to Maui
The guy at Alamo car rental managed to talk us into upgrading to a Mustang convertible!
My hair going crazy in the wind
To be continued…
I Love the shot that you took of yourself while ziplining…too cute!
It looks like you had a blast - I can’t wait to read about Maui…FH and I are headed their on November 10th - can’t freakin’ wait!
