Same Day Edits

October 4th, 2007 @ 7:09 pm by Mrs. Jasmine

One of the newest trends in wedding videography are “Same Day Edits”. Videographers edit footage of the ceremony and the bride and groom getting ready into a video to be shown during the reception. Initially, I wondered if it would be boring for guests to view footage of a ceremony they just saw, but after seeing demos of some truly fabulous same day edits, I’m a believer.

A same day edit will start at about $800+, in additon to whatever standard videography fee you will pay. You will also need a several hour gap between your ceremony and the reception to allow for editing time. It’s definitely a splurge, but if you have the extra cash, it can be a really creative and memorable addition to your reception.

Here are a few examples of my favorite same day edits, all from Elysium Productions in Orange County, California:

Amita and Harshith’s Same Day Edit

Bailey and Kevin’s Same Day

Kim and Dan’s Same Day Edit

Wow, these are great…I’m a believer now too! I just don’t know if I would put up 800 for it though. Are you doing this Miss Jasmine? Is Elysium your wedding videographer? They are good!

i’m going to take flak for this i know it…

it sounds really cool, but a several hour gap between ceremony and reception might annoy a lot of guests. if they knew it was for a video of the bride and groom getting ready that might make them even more irritated. (not everybody is as into weddings as we are ;) )

sorry to be down on it, but thats one of the big ‘no no’s’ i’ve heard over and over. ‘don’t make you guests wait an extra long time between ceremony & reception.’

Jennifer: I’m actually not doing a same day edit and Elysium is not my videographer. Even though I love the concept and think Elysium has executed it amazingly well, we’re having our ceremony and reception at the same venue so we don’t have a long enough time gap.

Sarahdoo: I completely agree with you that an extra-long time gap (particularly if it was just to make a video!) will do nothing but annoy your guests. I think same-day edits are meant for couples who have a reasonable time gap automatically built in (a couple who has an afternoon church ceremony at 3, but wants an evening reception at a nearby hotel starting at 6).

i love this! we are having this at our wedding too - it’s pretty common in the Philippines where we’re getting married, though here in the US, we’ve only seen it once - at a wedding in Hawaii!

here’s the videographers we’re looking to sign - http://threelogyvideo.com/blog/?cat=2

we had this at our wedding. it was one of the best parts of our wedding. our guests are still talking about it. the video came as part of our entertainment package (dj, MC, lighting, and the video) we booked with our reception hall. the reception hall that we booked was amazing. they sent a videographer to our church who took footage of the ceremony. and they edited the footage from the ceremony during the reception along with adding in the important reception footage. no time gap was needed.

if anyone is interested, the same-day wrap up videa is available at the florentine gardens in rivervale, nj.
