Morning After Brunch

October 5th, 2007 @ 2:14 pm by Mrs. Onion

The morning after the wedding we had breakfast with the 26 or so people who stayed at the Willard Street Inn with us. It was a great way to reminisce with our guests about the wedding and just unwind and relax before we were all on our way back home.

BIL Onion took this quick video which gives a good sense of all the activity and love in the room (which is beautiful). People came and went as they pleased and we got to see everyone one last time.

And the food was FANTASTIC! Mmmm…Willard Street Inn Breakfast!

Mr. Onion with his best friend/GM and his wife (who shares my name just spelled one letter differently — crazy huh?)

Here I am laughing as well — there was a lot of laughter that morning!

And even our fathers enjoyed themselves! (My father on the left and Mr. Onion’s father on the right).

It was a great way to end the weekend. I’d highly recommend having a day after breakfast or brunch if you can. This didn’t cost us anything as the breakfast was included in the room (it’s a B&B). If you have a family member or friend who could host, if you’re having your wedding in your home town, that is an ideal scenario.

So, are you/did you have a brunch the day after your wedding?

I went to a wedding where they did a day-after brunch (although I didn’t get to stay for the brunch). The bride and groom used the wedding centerpieces as decorations, so the only thing that really cost was the food.

I heard it went great and was a nice way for the bride and groom to relax with some of the people they only saw briefly on their wedding day.

We are hosting a catered breakfast the next morning, I’m really looking forward to that more relaxed atmosphere to catch up with everyone and talk about the wedding, etc.

Your breakfast looks fantastic!

Everything looks wonderful. What a perfect way to end a Destination Wedding. You’ve made me an even bigger fan of your wedding, Mrs. Onion!

We’re not having a DW, but my FI suggested that we do this, especially since the day-after is actually my 29th birthday.

We’d only invite immediate family and the bridal party, but I’m a little afraid of “burdening” guests with an additional event to attend.

I don’t think we will since it’s not really in either of our cultures. However, given the previous comments, if we still have any funds left, we might consider it.

We’re going to skip the brunch since we’re not having a DW and it’s not in the budget. Most guests are local, so they’re not staying at the hotel and I don’t think very many people would want to drive out to the hotel for brunch in the morning after being out late the night before at the wedding.

But that breakfast looks like it was really good and totally made me hungry!!

i got married in hawaii and we hosted a welcome picnic the day before the wedding at a park and we had a day after buffet brunch. i’m glad we had the extra time to spend with the guests. it made it all worth the planning and running around.

I’m having a destination-type wedding too. The only awkard thing we’re running into is that we don’t want to spend our Honeymoon in the same place everyone one else is staying. So they will all be having breakfast together hosted by our parents. We’ll just be off on our honeymoon already!

We had one at my parents brand new house (they moved in less than a month before the wedding!!) which was about a 5 minute drive from the wedding and where most of the people were staying. We had leftover wedding cake, and a bunch of pastries from a local bakery and tons of coffee and tea and juice, and people just mingled coming and going as they woke up and needed to hit the road. It was a really great way to get to see a bit more of everyone and say goodbye to people we won’t see for a while, and all the zillions of people who said “I’d like to see the new house!” got to without orchestrating a million individual tours. :-)

We’d love to host a brunch — ours is a destination wedding, but close enough that most will be able to drive there — but the budget won’t permit. Also, I kind of think it’s romantic to be wisked away directly to the honeymoon so the last people see of you that weekend is in all your wedding finery!

We did! And, I agree with you, it was so fun.

Fortunately, my in-laws and their friends have a tradition of hosting brunch for each others children when they marry. We were able to invite all of our guests (and most came!) and it was the most relaxing part of the whole wedding weekend. It was casual, we had the whole restaurant to ourselves, and we had the opportunity to say goodbye to our family and friends before they headed home and we headed to the airport for our honeymoon.

If you can make it work, it really is so much fun!
