The Wrong Hand?

October 8th, 2007 @ 5:53 pm by Mrs. Emerald

I love love love my wedding band and my engagement ring… but as individual pieces! What exactly do I mean by this? Well, my engagement ring has a very dainty band, it’s literally 1/16th of an inch (no joke, I just busted out my ruler and measured it!). So I picked out an equally dainty eternity band to match. However, I’ve recently decided that I prefer the look of both pieces worn separately, versus stacked. Wearing them stacked seems to detract from the delicateness of each ring.

So as an experiment, yesterday I started wearing my e-ring on my right hand, and leaving my wedding band on my left hand ring finger… And I kinda like it!!! Does anyone else do this, or would you think this was odd if you saw my rings worn this way? I also like the fact that now, both of my hands are graced with a bit of *bling bling* hehe. winky037 There isn’t any sort of superstitious mumbo jumbo associated with this action, is there…?

I do this all the time! I was a very fortunate bride and my husband bought me three, yes, three rings. My e-ring which is very unique, a band to wear with my e-ring which is a channel set eternity band and… a very, modern, hard edged band that matches his (we call it my “casual” band). So, I constantly flip all my rings around. Left-ERing + Eternity, Right-Casual. Left-Eternity, Right-Ering. Left-Eternity + Casual (this looks very cool, stacked), Right-ERing. There are so many combos. And, BTW, I believe it is a very “European” thing to do, to wear the band on the left, alone, with the ERing on the right.

Dare to be different!

not sure about the “superstitious” part of it all, but I’m also considering doing this (e ring right hand) just because I cant find a ring that goes well with my e ring, and i’m too cheap to get something custom made :) I’m thinking of just getting some tiny stackables as my “wedding ring” and switching the e ring to the other hand.

I am totally going to do this. My e-ring is so classic and clean, a tiffany six prong 1 ct. But my wedding ring is totally bling so I plan on switching them back and forth but wearing them on separate fingers.

My wedding set was made to go together, but they too, are beautiful alone, so I plan on doing this as well (no wedding band yet!)! I, like you, like the idea of bling on both hands!

I like that idea too! Except if you are right-handed, be cautious with wearing a big diamond on it since we tend to be rougher with our dominant hand.

My wedding band was custom made at the same time as my E-ring; both are dainty diamond eternity bands - I am measuring 1/16th as well Mrs. Emerald! They match up perfect together, and my diamond is 1.5 ct. so with both rings its even more bling on my left hand!! (Thanks FI!) I don’t get to wear the wedding band until March (almost there!) but I know I won’t wear the E-ring on my right hand. I LOVE the look of my rings together, and FI worked so hard to get them designed just right.

that’s what I do. my band looks kinda lonely though so maybe i will get a stacking band one day. ;)

oh i’m totally doing this. we purposely wanted to get wedding bands that match each others and it doesn’t necessarily “match” my engagement ring, although it’s complementary. like you, i think they look better separately where you can see the intricate design of each piece.

when i was younger, i never knew anyone to stack their wedding and engagement ring. i only saw wedding bands being worn really. so the stacked rings seem like somewhat of a new thing to me anyway. and i wanted to go traditional.

I thought that was an eastern European tradition? Maybe I’m wrong? Sounds pretty, though!

my band is too plain to wear separately. =\ my right hand i still wear a promise ring he got me over five years ago.

I’m going to wear my e ring and w ring on the same finger, but possibly thinking an eternity ring on a different finger as I don’t wear any other rings so 3 on the same finger would just be silly!

Mrs. Vic says:

I’m wearing them that way right now.

Mo says:

I think that’s a great idea, especially since I don’t really like the feel of something between my fingers. I’ll definitely be more comfortable with just a thin band on each hand.

I definitely plan to wear my rings that way. My e-ring is a tension setting, so putting another band behind it spoils the effect of the light coming through. My FSIL wears her rings the same way for the same reason.

ricchi says:

I do this too. Much more comfortable, and I like the simplicity of my wedding ring by itself. :-)

I do this. My engagement ring was actually a tiffany eternity band and it just looked silly with my wedding band.

I don’t normally do this, but when I read your post I tried it immediately. Alas, my ering is too small for my right hand ring finger! I think they’re a whole size apart — my left is a 3.5 and the right a 4.5! Oh well. =)

I love both my rings and they are also completely separate pieces–which is how we planned it.

I wear the wedding band on the right have and the e-ring on the left…I think people are a little taken aback (it is unique in our circle) and don’t know how to think about the weird family member who wears her wedding ring on her right hand. Oh well! I have two gorgeous rings! ;-)

Jeanne says:

It an Eastern European tradition. I was engaged to a Greek Orthordox and my engagement ring went on my right hand. My wedding band would have been on my left.

Quynh says:

I am doing the same thing. This is actually something commonly practiced in Europe. The beauty part is that my E-ring and my band match so well that even wearing them on opposite hands doesn’t deter from the fact that they go together.

Misse says:

I was totally planning on doing this… until my FI gouth me a gorgeous amathyst for my 30th birthday. Now, I am only going to get one ring.
