Mrs. Gummi Bear's Picture
Mrs. Gummi Bear, San Francisco Age and Occupation: 25, Japanese Importer/Illustrator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Game Developer/Programmer Engagement Date: April 15, 2006 Wedding Date: October 13, 2007 Blogging Since: June 19, 2007 Venue: Organic farm an hour from San Francisco About Me: I live for anthropologie, design blogs, sweets, japanese zakka, and vintage goods. We just bought our first home together and live with our two puppies and cat - it's a strange mixture of vintage, high-tech (we have 7 computers and 21 video game systems in all), and a whole lot of fur. Our wedding tries to embody the Japanese idea of "slow life", which is truly taking the time to enjoy food, company, and your environment!
About Mrs. Gummi Bear

Which do you want first? Ok, we’ll start with the good because it makes for pretty pictures, and we all know that pretty pictures is what makes you guys come back day after day. (That and the hope that Mr. GB will write that Japan guide for you, and he will, but probably after the wedding.)

I’m feeling a little blah today, I took a nap on the couch promptly after waking up, and Mr. GB left with the dogs to take them to the butt-fluff trimmers. He walks in, totally lacking that nap-time quiet and boisterously flung open the living room french doors, gigantic package to match his equally gigantic grin. He tells me that the UPS man was joking with him this morning, about how there hasn’t been a day when he has to drive up our street that he hasn’t had a package for us…. we’re sad that after the wedding all he’ll be delivering is the occasional anthropologie package. We slowly cut the tape around the package and open it up to reveal… my dream wedding package.

Yes, that’s 20 birds and a cake topper from Ann Wood! I love Mr. GB for managing to order these for me, after so long of writhing on the floor in desperate want of these birds, we have them! My photos really don’t do them justice, so I’ll post the images that Ann Wood sent to us herself. Even her own photos don’t show how cute they are!

I know, how could anything go wrong after this? What is the bad news?

RAIN.

It looks like it may rain on or before the day of the wedding, which is just really really bad since we have no indoor options and the rain contingency would be ridiculously expensive! If it rains before, the grass will be sopping wet and lawn games and picnics would be right out. :(

Pray for good weather everyone!! Oh, and if you are mad scientist who has plans for world domination with a weather machine, I promise you my first born if you keep the rest of October sunny and bright!

HOLY CRAP!!! I saw these on her blog and turned green with envy for the bride who was getting them all. Little did I know that the woman whose demise I was plotting was you! I am SO jealous, but also SO happy for you! I cannot wait to see your birds in action!

ann wood’s birds are beautiful handmade keepsakes that’ll be gorgeous displayed around your house after the wedding, given as gifts, or passed down! :)

can you imagine going over to miss gb’s house after the wedding and finding these little birds in random places around the house? because that would be awesome.

Mr. GB has the final numbers, but it’s roughtly 1100 for everything including shipping. It was an expense, but I’ll be keeping plenty as keepsakes! The bird topper was closer to 250 I think, but again, he did this one on his own so he has all the information.

I told Mr. GB I’d put them all in the bathroom across from the toilet so they can all stare at him while he’s in there…. watching…. smelling…

Good gracious! LUCKY.

Do you want to trade lives for a little while? Maybe a couple of days? :)

(Though P did just get me a lovely new ipod to celebrate HIS new job, which was v. sweet.)

$1100 is actually extremely reasonable for all that work!

I can’t wait to see the birds in action. Well, okay they won’t be moving much, but you know what I mean.

And there’s no hope for it. I did a Google search on preventing rain and how to get rid of rain, but it came up with nothing. And as we all know, if it’s not on Google, there’s no hope.

Love your posts Miss Gummi Bear!

Miss GB, you have my deepest sympathies on the rain. I swear, I am not one of those nuts who carries a copy of “The Secret” around, but I insisted to no end that IT WOULD NOT RAIN on our wedding. I am a crazy crazy crazy girl, and I REFUSED to have a tent…despite the fact that serious odds of having rain at the venue is really better than 50/50 on any given day.

It poured on us during rehearsal, and then rained until 10AM the day of (ceremony at 5:30PM). I still refused the tent at 10AM (last call for tents!), and my father called my FI to tell him I was certifiable. I still maintained that IT WOULD NOT RAIN. Guess what? The grass was dry as a friggin’ bone. I even sat on the ground, it was that dry. Our wedding was in May, and the weekends leading up to it, and nearly every weekend after have all rained.

To this day, I’m not sure whether completely blithely refusing to acknowledge rain really helped, but what the hell…worth a try, no? (Oh yeah, it also helps to send someone to Home Depot to buy like $200 worth of plastic sheeting and towels…nothing like preemptive spending to make Mother Nature change her mind…heh, guess she doesn’t know that HD will take ANYTHING back!)

princesskitty: I wish I could be so optomistic! It’s schedules to rain into the morning of… and out ceremony is at 1pm and it’s supposed to be cloudy and cold. So even if it stops raining, we’re worried the weather won’t allow it to dry out, especially if it rains all during the week! :( we’re still holding on…

bride: we’re keeping them and using them around the house and i may give them as gifts to some of our helpers. :) We’re pretty attached to them since we had to hold onto hope for months that we could get them one day.

I will do all of my spastic anti-rain dances for you miss GB! (These unattractive gyrations are for EMERGENCIES only and will NOT be available for your amusement on YouTube!)

But (hooray for the internet b/c I feel like I have a pretty good sense of who you are from your posts and can give you post-lurking-stranger advice!) I can totally see you rocking the alternative damp-friendly games– like Bridesmaid Slip n’Slide, What-Make-of-DS-do-I Have-Under-My-Wet-T-Shirt, Hurricane-Lawn Darts or Make-Your-Own-Hello-Kitty-Mudpie!

However, I like princesskitty also got married on the only non-downpour Saturday of the month, so I want to believe that you’ll have the same wacky luck but just to be sure….

maybe you should just promise the weather fairy that if she keeps it dry for your nuptials you will wear full-on hipwaders and umbrella hats out to dinner on your first anniversary! (My promise was to be SUPER nice to my MIL and believe me, I wish I thought of dressing like an insane fisherman instead!)

Oh, and the birdies are super cute, but remember anything exposed in the bathroom gets random atomized poopies on it (my husband laughs at me b/c I keep my toothbrush hidden in the medicine chest!), so once toilet birdies, ALWAYS toilet birdies!

Beautiful birds! Whatever the costs are (I understand they are hefty), what really really gets me is the effort Mr. GB put into getting these birds for Miss GB because she oh-so-very-much wanted them. :) Soooooo sweet! Or rather tweet. ;p

Aw, those birds are too cute! You’re a lucky girl Miss GB! And as for the rain, the weather people were calling for thunderstorms up until the end of last week in Chicago and we ended up with a beautiful day for my sister’s wedding. Just do your drought dance and maybe you’ll get lucky!

OMG, beanchar, you almost made me snort coffee out my nose! That is hilarious! I just love the idea, tho’, of Mr. GB being confronted by all those birdies…tee-hee!

Miss GB, I will think my “It’s not gonna friggin’ rain” thoughts for you. =) Maybe if it stops raining, you could get the caterer/rentals people to lay down dance floor tiles all across the grass, and you could provide big ol’ cheapy rugs laid along the edges for people to dry their feet on. At least that way people won’t be walking on the wet grass, and I *think* the floor tiles are cheaper than doing a tent, even if you have to get masses of them.

OMG! I saw those on Ann’s blog and wanted to scoop them all up. I love them. I saw some of her work at a friend’s gallery in LA and it is even more special in person. Lucky lucky lucky girl. SO cute.
