Palm Springs Weekend!

October 10th, 2007 @ 11:56 am by Mrs. Peppermint

Over the Columbus Day holiday weekend, Mr. Peppermint, my parents & I went out to Palm Springs for our last trip before the wedding. A quick shout-out to reader, AnnieOakley who got married on Sunday at the Parker–I was thinking of you!

Little did we know that it was the annual biker weekend out in Palm Springs. We had never been out there at this time, but the city was taken over by motorcycles. It was a fun crowd and you couldn’t go anywhere without hearing a bike racing down the street…

One of our first tasks was to mail out our invitations. We had just finished them up the night before, so we brought them with us. Here we are about to send them out…

I’ll be posting more about the invitations soon, but here’s a sneak peek of one invitation to a favorite guest…

The main reason we came out to Palm Springs was to have our tasting with the caterer (Le Vallauris). We had already decided on our main course (filet of beef or vegetable lasagna) and had to choose starters and desserts. Our one major constraint was that we wanted the starter to be vegetarian so all our guests could enjoy it…We were met with four sample plates to pass around. The chef suggested putting a few things on the starter rather than just having a single salad or soup. Here are the plates we tasted…

Above we have a mushroom tart, the butternut squash soup (in a cute espresso cup!), and a pear stuffed with blue cheese & walnuts (so rich, but SO good).

Here we have a cup of mushroom soup, an eggplant tart and a stack of beets & goat cheese (you can’t tell that it’s stacked in the picture, but it is!)

Above is a tomato and onion tart, and a rolled-up goat cheese pastry (I don’t know how else to describe it…I should have taken notes!) on a bed of arugula.

Our last plate was green and white asparagus with smoked salmon. It was really refreshing!

After passing the plates around the table, we finally came up with three winners (though they all were really delicious). The winners are: the tomato & onion tart, butternut squash soup & a half pear stuffed with blue cheese & walnuts on a bed of arugula. YUM!

Stay tuned for the dessert tastings…!

I love the picture commemorating the mailing of the invitations. There’s so much work that goes into them that it should be celebrated.

The food looks delicious, and now I’m hungry.

Are all three starters that you chose going to be on one plate now or how does that work?

dddd89 - they will all be on the same plate, I’m assuming it will look more like the first picture (just switch out the mushroom tart for the tomato tart)
