Take A Seat

October 10th, 2007 @ 8:25 am by Mrs. Licorice

More paper stuff! :)

In addition to ceremony programs, I decided to DIY butler cards, place cards, menu cards, table numbers, and the guest book. To keep things simple, I made personalized menu cards that doubled as place cards. Each menu card had only what each guest ordered on the invitation reply card, and were color coded to reduce confusion for the caterers. It worked out great!

I bought all the cards from Paper Source, and the text was designed on Adobe Illustrator. To make the swirly green motif, I pulled elements from my wedding invitations.

Something that didn’t work so great: my wish tree guest book.  (I’ll show y’all how I made the trees in another post.)

I found this tray to hold my wish cards at Michael’s. It was a natural wood color, but I spray painted it sage green.

I used the same Kate’s Paperie ribbon that I used on the programs.

I made this sign to help my guests know what to do:

Unfortunately, only one couple “got it.” Most people were confused by this set up and actually wondered where the book was. Perhaps it was my use of the phrase “guest book?” Maybe they didn’t bother to actually read the sign? This was one of the wedding details that I was really excited about, so I was super bummed to find I only had one well-wish after I got back from the honeymoon.

So this is my advice that was already summed up by Miss Daffodil: have a greeter or a guest book attendant. I’ve never seen an attendant at any of my friends’ weddings, so I never thought to delegate this to any of my friends. I really wish I had!

Wow, these are gorgeous-it’s too bad that one one couple ‘got it’ on the guestbook. I love that you carried through the design elements from your invitations to create a unified look.

We had a non-standard guest “book,” too, but the wedding was small enough where we could personally go to each table and say “thank you for coming; have you seen the guestbook?”

i’m totally doing the same thing for my menus! the thing is that they didn’t have to select a meal, everyone’s getting the same thing. so all of their menus are the same. do you think that’s weird to have a “personalized” menu… but not really?

i’m planning to have the coordinators go around and collect wishes from people during dinner too, in addition to having my jar sitting out at cocktail hour.

The scripty font is Bickham Script Pro and main text is Minion Pro.

aoedorthee: I don’t think it’s weird to have a personalized menu at all! That’s what I did! A lot of the guests kept their menus as a keepsake. :) I really liked being able to cut down on paper and kept the table less cluttered.

I love how you “borrowed” elements from you invites to make the menu cards. Im wondering how did you do that? Did you do it through a digital stamp like you did with your save the dates? I love the idea.
