Tasting: Desserts in the Desert

October 10th, 2007 @ 5:41 pm by Mrs. Peppermint

The Starters

The best part of the tasting was, of course, the dessert! Now I must confess, I LOVE desserts. I live for desserts. I’ve been trying to curb these desires given that I have two months to get into a wedding dress, but this was the day I could throw caution to the wind!

After deciding on our starter, we were brought three delectable plates full of desserts. You may remember that for dessert we’ll be doing a sampler. Basically, we’ll have a smaller “show” cake so we can cut the cake. Guests will get a dessert plate with a small piece of the wedding cake, a sorbet and a mini creme brulee. Here was our first option:

Above we have a decadent double chocolate cake (really more of a mousse…mmmm). It’s paired with a pistachio ice cream (in an edible cup) and a vanilla & raspberry creme brulee.

Next, we have a more exotic cake option. This cake was a mango/raspberry concoction served with pistachio creme brulee and a coconut sorbet. Despite some of these more distinctive flavors, the taste was subtle (in a good way!) and not overwhelming.

Lastly we had a raspberry and white chocolate cake, raspberry sorbet & vanilla creme brulet.

After much discussion (we were between the raspberry & white chocolate cake vs. the double chocolate cake), we decided on the raspberry white chocolate cake, coconut sorbet & vanilla and raspberry creme brulee.

It was such a nice relief to have one more decision made!

What are you doing for dessert at your wedding? What flavor cake did you choose??

Since we’re getting married in SW Florida, we’re having white cake with key lime pastry cream and vanilla mousse. Mmmm!

We had white cake with lilikoi (passionfruit) filling. We also had a dessert station with mini key lime pies, kona coffee mousse and stick chocolate cake w/ caramelized mango sauce.

Mmmm desserts. Yum. Those look delicious! If I were a guest at your wedding, I would be terrifically happy with any of the above.

i’m totally crashing your wedding just for dessert.
we totally cheaped out on dessert as the budget had to give somewhere, but our cake was still good. red velvet with cream cheese filling & frosting, and lemon cake with fresh strawberry/bavarian cream filling with cream cheese frosting.

I love dessert as well. I could care about any other food but the desserts. Fi chose the whole dinner menu. On our Dessert wonderland we are having, 3 cakes ( apple spice, poppyseed cream cheese, and choc raspberry ) brownies, little wedding suger cookies, cream puff tower with carmel sauce. I know I’m nutz. Not to mention the candy buffet. But that’s another story. My family and friends know about my sweet tooth. I wan’t to come to ur wedidng for the creme burlee!

i love dessert, but there was already so much food at the wedding already we decided to do an ice cream bar instead. ice cream is such a good complement to wedding cake! and they had soooo many things with it, like cookie cups, brownies, peanut brittle, different sauces - plus raspberry & mango sorbet, vanilla & coconut ice cream, and cappucino gelato!! they had someone giving us food the whole time - i made the mistake of taking a few bites and putting the plate down. i was so busy after that i never saw it again. :-(
