Daria Bishop’s Ring Shots

October 11th, 2007 @ 3:54 pm by Mrs. Onion

I was inspired by Miss Petunia’s “Picture These Rings” post today and wanted to share some GREAT ring shots from our lovely photographer, Daria Bishop. The photos below were all taken from her blog and I hope they inspire you to check out more of her great work. Daria and her husband Andy live in Vermont but they travel — so if you’re a New England or NY Metro area bride planning your wedding check her out! She also does engagement sessions and family photos. I’d recommend you get lost for hours watching her client slide shows.

These are our rings on the piano at the Willard Street Inn where we stayed with our friends and family.

The rest of the images are from Daria’s blog. Enjoy!

To learn more about Daria check out her website, www.dariabishop.com and tell her Mr. & Mrs. Onion sent you!

My favorite is the leaf, too! (obvious reasons, right?) I must do something like that!

The green leaf is my favorite. I think the solid color background make the rings stand out more. But if I wanted some frameable artwork, I’d go with the piano keys.

PR?

I can’t help but wonder if you are getting (or have gotten) a discount for mentioning your vendors so often? I think daria’s photos are beautiful, but in almost every Mrs. Onion post I am asked to check her out? I know your bio also says that you are in PR, so i am wondering if this is a clever way to get discounts and do PR for your vendors? I’m not trying to be negative, but i’ve thought about this reading your last couple posts and when this one came I can’t resist asking because it seems a bit obvious.

Wow…No! I’m really not getting anything or being paid to share the love. I just had THAT great of experience with Daria. She and her husband went above and beyond for us on our wedding day and I was really happy to have them there. My natural inclination, when I meet people whose work I believe in, is to tell other people about them — a blog is one way to do that.

When I get my pro pics back (in a month or so) I’ll be able to share more about my fantastic experiences with ALL my vendors (my great florist Dana, my sweet invitation designer Aimee etc), but I didn’t want to do that until I had visuals b/c we all know that bee readers LOVE pictures. I myself scroll right past posts with no photos and then go back and read them later. Let’s face it — most people look first, then read, or look and don’t read at all.

Heck, if this weren’t a wedding blog I’d be telling you all about the great jazz concert I went to last night (Karrin Allyson - http://www.karrin.com), the fantastic real estate website I recently found as I’m hunting for a home with my new husband (www.streeteasy.com) or the great southern Indian restaurant I found last week in the city (Saravanaas).

So, just to set the record straight — I am not now, nor have I ever been paid to promote my vendors. I did a lot of research and selected them with care — and as a result, I was pleased with their work. My tone might “read” like it’s a PR pitch, but hey, that’s what I do for a living, so it just comes through in my writing style.

What do you do for a living? Does that effect how you would share your wedding plans? And if you’re “not trying to be negative” then why did you post annonomously as “PR?”

I love the pic with the shells. I hadn’t even thought of doing a special ring photo like that. Thanks for the good idea & making me think outside the box! :)

Maegan — you’re welcome ;) I didn’t set up the ring shot — our best man just arranged with Mr. Onion to “borrow” my wedding ring while we were getting dressed — I didn’t know until I saw it!

To bounce of off what Mrs. Onion mentioned…

I was an administrative assistant during my wedding, and I found myself at odds with that. My job was to serve everyone else, but for my wedding my job was to be the one being served…it was kind of strange.

I’m also a big fan of telling people about the cool businesses or experiences I have, so I can see what you mean. I love to tell everyone about my bamboo jeans, the local farmer’s market, or the cirque/dinner theatre we went to for our one-year wedding anniversary. Being excited about these things makes me happy and it’s fun to share that.

I will say (for the other side of the coin) that if anyone else had thought along the lines of PR?’s comment, but not said anything, then PR?’s comment helped clear the air. No kickbacks. And in the wedding business, that’s a good question to ask. That said, it might have a little more validity if a regular posting ID was used.

Okay, that was as heavy a response as I’m going to give today…onto fun things!

PR - The bees absolutely do not receive kick backs for blogging about vendors.

I will be following up on this in a separate post.

Lovely pics. As you can see…I FINALLY have internet access…although, I am about to hand the new lappy over to Mr Corn’s friend to install some applications we need, so my internet access will be short lived.

Annnnnywho, when I DO get back up and running for good, I have lots and LOTS to post about, and you better believe I will be posting numerous links to my vendors. And uh, no, I will not be receiving any kickbacks. I can promise you that. I, and I am sure you, post links to the people who made my day so wonderful in the hopes that other people can use that information to their advantage.

Ok… I’m off the soapbox now :)

You should check out Nate Kaiser (his studio is called The Image is Found)’s ring pictures. (He wasn’t my photographer because I couldn’t justify that much money, but he’s SO GREAT, and he has the cutest little daughter.)
