Inspiration Board

October 16th, 2007 @ 10:55 am by Miss Chickadee

Awhile back, Abby of the amazing blog Style Me Pretty held an Inspiration Board contest. Between all the pics I save to my hard drive on a daily basis and my penchant for Photoshop, I knew I had to participate.

For those of you unfamiliar with the concept, an inspiration board is a sort of collage that embodies the feeling and tone of your wedding. It is, just as the name implies, the inspiration for your wedding!

So I put my new Photoshop CS3 to the test, and this is what I came up with:

As you might be able to tell, this is not my wedding dress and I wouldn’t dream of stuffing my bridesmaids into those tiny little dresses (although I think I need that for Mr. C’s work holiday party, y/n?) but I think it does show that I want a pretty classy, chic affair.

It was tons of fun to make and it’s nice to have something I can send people when they go “wait? yellow and black?” Now (I hope) they see that I haven’t completely lost my mind! Also, don’t be intimidated into thinking you need a fancy program like Photoshop to make an inspiration board. You could always download a free program like Gimp or even work it up in Microsoft Word!

Love it! It looks so chic and elegant. I some some gorgeous damask print napkins on the Plum Party website– they might be cute if you’re having a cocktail hour!

I dont typically like yellow - but this is great! Very elegant yet unexpected. I second Kaci’s question - any idea who makes the dress?!

haha. Guess what? I saved YOUR inspiration on MY hard drive when I saw it on stylemepretty. I love the color-combo, but alas it wouldn’t work at my venue (b/c part of the reception is outdoors) so we’re going with green instead of yellow.

Anyway, just wanted to let you know that you’ve got a fan!

It looks great! I would love to do a striking color combo like this, but alas, it wouldn’t work with my venue :)

Looks awesome…and reminds me of those recipe cards they were giving away from Pear and Peony…

I recommend Paint.Net for a great (albeit basic) open source program that’s easy to use.

GIMP can do everything that CS3 can, but its interface is difficult for even some more advanced users.

Who makes that wedding dress?!

I love this!!!! The colors and images are beautiful and very well put together! I have something sort of like it in my wedding book but you’ve inspired me! I’ll be going home and putting a more extensive one together tonight! Thanks everyone for the amazing inspiration!!!

Have you seen these? I would really be cute with yellow flowers as place cards.

The little black dress is Romona Keveza (as is the wedding gown actually!)

Thanks to everyone who’s linked to/suggested items within the theme too!

Your inspiration board reminded me of a knottie bio of the week featured on weddingbee awhile back “springchic” - so elegant!

Your board is great. I love damask print.

Amanda says:

Where did you get the damask print paper? I have been looking all over for some, but haven’t been able to find any. I am going for the same feel for my wedding, only with red instead of the yellow.

So funny chikadee, I’m in IL and we have the same color scheme (I too was totally inspired by springchic) and the same damask fascination!!!! I’m calling it Southern Victorian :) Love your board.

That’s awesome L! Where in IL are you?

Christine says:

That is so incredible! Make sure you share it with your photographer if you haven’t already, so they have a feel for what you love. It really helps them out on the big day!

Your damask is almost identical to the one used as the inspiration for my new logo. Love it!

Miss Chickadee-
I’m in Chicago! From the south burbs, spent 5 years in Champaign! Been down to bloomington AND peoria about a billion times.

Hey - yellow and black and your FI is a mechanical engineer - have you considered asking Cat for sponsorship??

Miss Chickadee says:

Haha, that’s a great idea! My FH works for Cat, actually. I wonder if they’d go for that? I seriously never even realized they were Cat colors…although my dad has already pointed out that they’re Steelers colors. :)

23.
thebrittness says:

Yep, mine too - which is why we aren’t having yellow or black at our wedding!! =)

I always hear Cat wives talking about how you have to ‘bleed yellow’ in order to survive - apparently you do that already! =)

Your board looks awesome!

And I love that hair shot!!! It might be exactly what I need. Do you think you could email me a larger version of that pic or tell me where you found it?

Miss Chickadee!! Funny — those are the exact same colors of my wedding and I also drew inspiration from the same knottie. Furthermore, that is the EXACT cake I’ve picked out and the black and white damask linen…those are my linens! Yay — I’m so glad you did this inspiration board b/c people really do say “black, white & yellow….hmmm I don’t know?” Oh, and my dress is very similar as well. Please keep sharing!

Dear Dallas Bride 2008,
Can you tell me where you are getting the black and white damask linen in the photo? Thanks - I have been looking everywhere and can not find it!
