To The Tips Of My Toes

October 16th, 2007 @ 1:33 pm by Mrs. Magnolia

Last weekend, my mom and I took care of all kinds of wedding-related activities, including posting an engagement announcement in my hometown paper, ordering a veil, ordering a crinoline, and….buying shoes!

I’m 5’9″, and Mr. Magnolia is 5’10″. He absolutely does not care whether I wear flats or 4″ heels, but for our wedding day (and yes, the sake of the pictures) I want to be my actual height.

(image courtesy of people.com. Seriously, y’all? She’s totally squatting in this picture.)

So began the search for the perfect flat wedding shoe. I’ve been looking at pictures online for what feels like forever, and I had decided on a few criteria:

1. No white

2. No ballet flat with the little bow

3. Peep toe, if possible

My mom decided early on that if I wasn’t going to purchase white ballet slippers, like she wore for my parents’ wedding over 30 years ago, then my shoes needed to be silver. End of story. I was open to other colors, but every one I picked up garnered an odd, scrunched-nose look. So, no big deal. I like silver.

I did quickly realize that peep toe flats do absolutely nothing to flatter my Size 9 feet. Every pair I tried on made me look like this:

(Cute, for a clown….but not what I’m going for on the big day!)

We did find several options of the closed toe variety, and these were the favorites:

(Gianni Bini’s Dorothy)

My mom absolutely loved these, which I tried on at Dillard’s. They were very cute, but they reminded me of slippers, which wasn’t exactly the look I was going for.

And then, we found these at Belk:

(Calvin Klein’s Suri)

I love these shoes. And yes, they’re the ones we ended up purchasing. They’re a little bit glam, very comfortable, and I can definitely wear them with jeans after the wedding. Score!

I’m having the same issue but I need them in gold. Help!

AWESOME shoes! Love them! Hint I learned from my wedding shoes? Make sure they don’t have any snaggy spots on them - my rhinestone mounts kept catching the bottom of my dress. Don’t want to trip!

I have a really cute pair of gold Nine West flats with gold medallions on the toe (honestly, they look like Tory Burch at a sixth of the price), similar to these in that they have elastic around the back of the heel…I think I paid ~$60 (down from $75) over the summer, but the last time I was in a Nine West store they were actually on the sale shelf! I think even Payless did something similar…or maybe you’re up for a splurge on the ‘real thing’ since it’s your wedding:

Anyone else find it hilarious that Miss Magnolia started her post with a picture of TomKat and ended it with shoes called “Suri”??? Intentional!??!

those shoes are heavenly!

I was going to mention the same thing about the rhinestones and being careful not to let them snag your beautiful dress, or even fall out all together! i have a gorgeous pair of heels that were very pricey - and one of the rhinestones fell out the first time I wore them (and I wasn’t playing soccer with them or anything like that). Luckily nordstroms replaced them, but suggested I double check all prongs before wearing and I have also heard that clear nail polish helps to hold them in place!

love the shoes! i’m 6′ and fi is 5′11, so i know your pain! i’ve searched far and wide for ‘thicker’ men’s shoes and of course i had to have the flatest flats available. i got a very similar pair to yours. silver with a pretty little brooch on the toe.

i’m def. going to be pulling a katie squat come picture time. :)

I feel your pain! I’m a 9 as well and only 2 inches shorter than FI. I had a hairdresser tell me not to worry about wearing flats with larger feet since they only look that way to you- she was an 8.5 and her feet did not look at all big in flats! Yay banana feet!
