For The Love Of Lavender

October 17th, 2007 @ 2:33 pm by Mrs. Violet

When I first pondered what kind of favors to give for our wedding, I was wholeheartedly set on lavender sachets. I just love lavender; the color is beautiful and the smell is so fragant. It’s pretty yet also functional. I was almost set on buying bags of these buds when I suddenly realized that maybe not everyone will share in my sentiments; specifically the male guests and those who have allergies. Sigh. Nevertheless, I still think lavender is a great favor to give.

Here are a few favor ideas that I found - I am hoping that someone out there does lavender for the sake of Mrs. Violet (just kidding). These love buds would work perfectly for bridal showers too!

From the Knot, these babies are $1.65 each.

So pretty!

I love lavendar too…It’s great for closets, laundry, vacuuming and so on.

If you ever to go a lavendar festival, you can pick up some great ideas there too.

One of my personal favorites: http://www.rubyjewel.net/honeylavendar.php

I’m on it for you, Violet!! Nothing as fancy as all those, but I *will* be giving lavender sachets as favors. (If I was going to do favors, I wanted it to be something useful, and lavender is good at keeping moths away.)

Already have the lavender, thanks to great prices at http://www.Save-on-Crafts.com, but it’s taking FOREVER for the sachet fabric to be delivered from India. (My Ebay fixation knows no international borders!) So I’ll have photos for you one of these days, but it doesn’t look to be anytime soon!

P.S. Angel, those treats DO look great! Mrs V., I can’t help you out on the NYC front, but anyone in DC should check out The Dairy Godmother in Alexandria. They sometimes have lavender sorbet, and it’s fantastic. (And even if they don’t, you can’t go wrong with their frozen custard either!) http://www.thedairygodmother.com

Tulip - I can’t wait to see photos of your favors, hope the bags arrive soon!

PS. I must make my own lavendar goodies and share it with other deprived New Yorkers.

I love lavender!! At my wedding, I had some dried lavender sprigs in my bouquet and the bridesmaids’ bouquets.

I also made little blue paper cones with our brown C monogram, and filled them with lavender buds to toss instead of rice, bubbles, and all those overdone things. It was an outdoor wedding, and the venue was THRILLED I would be using something like lavender buds!

I can still smell the lavender in our wedding night suite as I took off my dress full of lavender!! And now smelling lavender, especially fragrant lavender buds, reminds me of my wedding day.

Mmm…lavender. This place is really cool: http://www.aliikulalavender.com — they’re a farm on Maui that grows, duh, lavender! And they have a really awesome range of products from the usual stuff — sachets, etc. — to coffee and salad dressing. I love the strawberry-lavender syrup…mmm….

I checked and Ruby Jewel ships everywhere, but yeah, unless you’re having an ice cream social it might be a lot of ice cream just to try it.

Then there’s lavender lemonade. It uses culinary lavender and is so refreshing.

Whoops, you’d think that if I loved it so much, I could at least spell it right..lavendEr. I blame my coworker with a similar last name. :)

Hey,

You’re right to worry about guests with allergies though. They’re gorgeous but if I arrived at an event with that much lavender I’d probably have to sit outside the whole time. The bottled ones are good because you get the look and the sent when you get home but not everyone has to partake. I don’t think boquets or anything like that would be a problem unless you’re bridesmaids are allergic but I”m sure you’d know that by now. Hope that helps!

I’m doing lavender sachets too! But for the men, I’m doing something different: bay, allspice, and lemon, light on the bay (it’s strong). I’m going to attach tags to each, with name on front and table number on the back, and put them on a tray inside the door of our reception site. I couldn’t resist buying extra lavender to put in my drawers!

I like lavender wands. They are fun to make and are great gifts.

Instead of bubbles or petals, I’m hoping to use lavender as a twist on the regular toss.

For favors, I’m thinking of packing rosemary seeds - light, easy-to-travel-with, and stands for remembrance. If only I could know that people would actually plant the seeds….

Love your assortment of different ways you can use lavender….I’m inspired now.

Linnea, I received wildflower seeds and still haven’t planted them. :( How hard could they be…just toss and leave, right?

I know this is WAY late, but I love this post! We did lavender bundles as our place cards tied to moo cards (www.moo.com). Our florist, Dana Barrow at Fresh Floral Design Studio, did a beautiful job tied with brown ribbon to match our BM dresses and table runners. Loved it!
