Mr. Onion designed his own wedding ring and we had it custom made by the same jeweler that custom made my ring. He didn’t want me to share it with anyone before the wedding but now that the wedding is over all bets are off!
The outside is brushed platinum with polished trim. This is nothing unusual. But the inside is 18 carat yellow gold. It’s like his little secret that only he knows about (until now)! The ring is displayed on a swatch from his custom suit fabric. It really looked beautiful together.
He loves the weight — the ring is quite heavy.
I’m confident this is something that he will love for years to come. We decided to “do it right” the first time instead of upgrading later on in life. I really like the idea of wearing one wedding ring your entire life.

I totally agree with you! We could have saved a lot of money going with white gold, but I never wanted to upgrade! How unsentimental. So we went with platinum and I’m very, very happy with it. We want our wedding rings to be heirlooms someday.
My FI recently tried on a ring like Mr. Onion’s that is gold on the inside- I was surprised by how much I liked it! It added warmth to the platinum but it was really subtle. I think he’s going to go with a plain platinum one, but the one with a gold lining was really beautiful too!
I love the inside glow of that last picture….I agree, it adds warmth. Beautiful ring!
This is just like our rings!! Our bands are plain brushed stainless steel with a lining of red gold (the gold has a little copper in it to make it reddish). I love the secret little touch to warm up the stainless.
