Ideal Engagement Period

October 18th, 2007 @ 6:59 pm by Reader Buzz

Mrs. Blueberry did a poll awhile back on the length of your engagement period.  Then Miss Petunia debated the pros and cons of a short vs. long engagement period in her post earlier today.

So let’s find out….

If you could do it again, what would be the ideal length of your engagement period?

Mine was originally 19, but I think I would have shortened it to 13-18 (probably 14), so I have a few months outside of the ever important one-year timeline that all the magazines have.

Mine’s about 16 months. If I had to do it again, it would still be 16 months. It gives you a lot of time to really think about what you want and to scout for suppliers. By the time you get married, all the plans are already polished! ;)

Mine was 10, but if I had to do it over again, I would have had it be super short (like 2 or less) and had a DW or courthouse wedding, with a big BBQ afterwards.

Mine was 10months. He asked me at christmas and we got married the next October. It was a BIT rushed in planning the wedding, but honestly, it was GREAT. I dont think I could have handled a long engagement… anythign over a year and Id go nuts, just because Im a really impatient person. Ours was awesome and Id probably leave it just teh way it was.

Oh thank gosh…we had 16 months and I felt like it was too much. At a certain point I think you start to feel like…screw this planning the “perfect” wedding thing and lets get to the to have and to hold perfect MARRIAGE thing! ;-) I am glad to see most people agree.

I just checked with the Association of Bridal Consultants, and the ideal engagement period they have listed in their etiquette guide is 9 months.
