About Mrs. Onion

The Big Reaction!

October 18th, 2007 @ 6:33 pm by Mrs. Onion

I got a lot of questions about Mr. Onion’s reaction to his wedding gift — the album of “intime photos” that Tony Yang took. My earlier post, “Tony’s Girls,” created quite a stir and was a great conversation. You all seemed to have very strong opinions about the subject of “boudoir photos” but this is what weddingbee is all about — sharing experiences and opinions!

Here is the hard cover album I ordered from www.mpix.com. I’d highly recommend mpix — the quality was much better than the Shutterfly album I’d ordered a few months earlier and the prices were competitive. $30 for a 10×10 hard cover book with 20 pages and it arrived so quickly! There was a choice of paper at no addition cost — glossy, matte or linen. I chose linen because I wanted the album to feel soft and romantic. I’ll be ordering from them again for sure.

Below is a quick glance inside the book

Right, so onto Mr. Onion’s reaction. He gave me his gift first — of course there were tears and lots of hugging! Then I gave him the book all wrapped up. I was really nervous. A little piece of me was worried he’d be jealous or uncomfortable that the images were taken by another man. But I got over that very quickly — if I really thought that would be the case then I wouldn’t have had the photos taken to begin with.

He was blown away. He opened the book to the first page, read it and kissed me. :) I printed some text that read “With all my heart on our wedding day.” I said — “wait wait…there’s more!” I watched him flip page after page with a smile on his face. It was a great feeling. When he got to end I said “Well?!?!” He simply said “You’re hot” and laughed…then proceeded to kiss me some more. It was just the reaction I was looking for – for him to be excited and thrilled.

I’m glad that I gave the gift to him in private two days before the wedding instead of on the morning of the wedding in front of our photographers and/or his groomsmen (his dad was one of them — not something I want my FIL to be thinking about)! Haha. All in all I’m really glad that I had this experience and was able to share these images with him. It will be a wonderful thing to look back on some day.

Mrs. Onion…you ARE HOT!! I’m glad he reacted as such. I haven’t read all the comments in your Tony’s Girls post as of yet, but I’ll be stopping by there as well.

Both you and your new husband are fantastic gift givers…well thought out and personal. I love the idea. So much in fact, I hope you don’t mind if I “borrow” it.

I’m glad you got the reaction you wanted! I wondered how you were going to present the pictures, an album is such a clever idea (maybe you posted about it before and I forgot!)! Good job!

I just want to seriously thank you for sharing such a private gift. I never re-checked that original post, but I think it got a little too “does your FH know about you posting here about this?” for me. I would never have thought about doing this since I am so shy, but you have really made me think about it since my FH would probably love it as well. Best wishes to you, and I’m so happy it went as planned!

How cool! The book turned out beautifully. I realized that I didn’t read all the responses to Tony’s Girls before and I was surprised at some of the reactions too. What can I say, you stir it up girl. :)

I’m in favor of “borrowing” it too. Does anyone know of a photographer like this in Washington State?

I’d like to do this for our first anniversary. It’s the paper anniversary so I figure pictures are the perfect gift!

So great to hear that. I’d be afraid that my Mr. Violet would be upset that I got so close and personal with the photog too.. but I think it’s worth it and what a great way to capture this most important time period in your lives!

How did you pick Mpix for your album? Did you look at other album printers like Blurb?

I was wondering about that…giving it the day of! I too want to do this! But also do not want FFIL, or actually any of his friends even getting a glance of those photo’s!
Good idea to do it a few days before the wedding! I like that idea!

It came out really great too! Thanks for sharing!!!

Thanks for sharing! I am actually doing the same thing for my fiance, and I plan on giving him the book after our rehearsal dinner so he has all night to “stew over my hotness,” as my MOH said. I’m so excited/nervous to see his reaction… thanks again so much for sharing your experience!

Awww, good to hear he had a great reaction. As I just got married a couple weeks ago and also did a photo session with Tony—my guy’s reaction was pretty similar. Let’s just say he got pretty excited! I also gave it to him in private a couple days in advance. I had a nice pair of cuff links ready just in case we were urged to open gifts in front of other people. I ordered my book from Picaboo and it looks great. For those of us who have chosen to do this, I am sure we’ll enjoy looking back at our books in like 20 years and seeing how young and hot we are! :-)

First of all I wanted to say thank you for all your warm and kind comments. It was a big decision to share these images with the weddingbee community but I decided to do so because I thought it might help other girls who were thinking about doing something like this, who never even knew this was an option, who were scared but wanted to do this…I was hoping my experience and results would help others with their choice.

C-girl — Mpix was recommended to my by Tony Yang so I decided for $30 I’d give it a try. I was really pleased with how easy their template was, how many choices I had (backgrounds, size, layout, boarders etc), the quality of the final product and how fast it arrived. I’ve never tried blurb so I can’t comment on that.

D - the other knottie, “Tony’s Girls” as we teased, all booked the same week — three week nights in a row. However if you wanted to bring a friend that would be fine too! It’s really a scheduling issue more than anything else. He prefers to work with natural light and his weekends book up with weddings so we had our sessions midweek after work. HTH!
