#2: Mr. and Mrs. Who?

October 23rd, 2007 @ 6:00 pm by Mrs. Chickadee

Things I Learned From My Sister’s Wedding: #2

When making your honeymoon reservations, make sure you specify what your new, married name (if you choose to change your name) will be.

I think it’s quite common for the bride to really take control of the wedding planning, and this often includes the honeymoon. My sister was no exception. She made the honeymoon reservations in Cancun, used her account to pay for it, etc.

Well, as a result, when they arrived at the Dreams Cancun, they were greeted as Mr. and Mrs. H (her maiden name) instead of Mr. and Mrs. V (married name). Things were labeled in their suite as Mr. and Mrs. H, and when my new brother-in-law called down to the front desk he was referred to as Mr. H. Oops.

Luckily, my sister and her husband have a good sense of humor. Still, I would suggest making it quite clear to your honeymoon accommodations what your new name is going to be!

On the other end of things - make sure you book your flight information with whatever will be on your official ID at the time. You can bring your marriage license with you, but they may question you relentlessly anyway if it is not yet been resubmitted, recorded and sealed by the county.

Just an FYI from someone who knows. :-P

This is both hilarious and excellent advice :) Who’d have thought?

Hahaha that happened to me too! I was so bitter that my first “Mr & Mrs” paper wasn’t something we would really want to keep as a real keepsake. Oh well!

More importantly, make sure your flight information is the same as your ID! They won’t let you board if you bought the ticket in one name and your ID still has another name.

Meh, this has already happened to my fiance and I when traveling. I have a lot of hotel points so we usually stay in rooms that are in my name. We both got a kick out of it and it was definitely an object lesson for him in the politics and emotions of last names!

Not only did I book our wedding night suite in my name and the inn greeted us by my last name the next morning at breakfast, but I booked the honeymoon with my hotel points (like BD) and the front desk happily greeted us as the new Mr. and Mrs. Bride’s Maiden Name! We just laughed. :)

I’ll keep that in mind. Did they enjoy their stay at Dreams?

Same thing happened to us. I don’t understand why it’s so hard for them, but yeah, it was kind of a letdown.
