Fires

October 23rd, 2007 @ 1:22 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

Well, Southern California is in a State of Emergency. Fires are blazing all over the place and I’m not talking about the fires of love. bummed012 All around us, family and friends are being evacuated, and people are glued to their televisions, waiting for a break in the deluge of ashes and embers.

While this isn’t really wedding-related, my MOH’s husband (and my future brother in law) hasn’t been home for days (and most likely won’t be able to for a few days more), since he’s out there fighting fires. Our photographer in San Diego has been evacuated. One of our readers will likely be evacuated. People are so distraught and afraid- waiting for the word to get out of town, or to go back home.

Please say a little prayer or send some good wishes for the Angelenos suffering. Even though the wedding is 11 days away now, I’m too focused on the news, waiting for a small miracle to happen. Let’s hope the fires cease soon, and people can get their lives back.

To all those who have already been affected by these fires- my condolences are with you.

keep blogging, bees! besides being glued to the news, too scared to do work, this is the only thing diverting my attention and keeping me sane. (i’m in SD, in the Balboa park area, which thankfully is not being evacuated yet).

Keep safe all you California bees!

And hopefully afterwards, this will be a good (safe) story to tell the grandkids. And maybe a wedding is just what everyone needs to pick their spirits up.

Keep us posted!

my thoughts are with all you California bees and your families. my best friend/BM lives in LA and a great friend from college who flew all the way to Vermont for a wedding last month lives in San Diego — his cell phone isn’t working and i haven’t gotten an email back either. i’m trying not to freak out.

miss kiwi — i hope all your friends and family stay safe and will be able to participate in your wedding next weekend.

I live in North Irvine and the fire was across the street from my home on Sunday night and things didn’t get better until Monday afternoon. Even though, the fire has passed through our area, the aftermath is still here. Our home is smells horrible and its so dry, we’re having bloody noses. But overall, we’re still lucky.

I was pissed to find out it was arson. How could someone think to do something like this?

Keep CA in your prayers.

Miss Kiwi-
Our photographer in SD has also been evacuated (I am wondering if we have the same photog?). I am getting married in La Jolla and am just praying the winds don’t start to send the fmlames that way. I hope your family and friends are ok.

Thinking of all the Californians!

The news up here (Vancouver, BC) was saying that some BC firefighters might be heading down to help out, now that most of BC is into the “wet” season.

My thought and prayers are with everyone in southern CA (all my family is in the LA area). I grew up there and I still can’t get over the number of large fires going on at the same time in all different areas…I can barely look at the pictures without getting teary-eyed. Please keep safe…

I live in North County San Diego not too far from one of the many fires burning. We have been just at home waiting (and pre-packing just in case) for the reverse 911 calls or knocks on our door. Many of our friends have already been evacuated and an acquaintance has lost a home. It’s so devastating. Our house, even with windows and doors shut, smells smoky and when we walk outside, we get covered in ashes.

I’ve tried to keep busy with planning (we are eloping in about 2 weeks) but it’s just too hard to focus. About 5 of my wedding related deliveries are not being delivered because UPS/Fedex/DHL are not delivering in our zone. Hopefully they’ll let me pick them up.

Everyone please stay safe!! My thoughts and prayers all you fellow southern Californians.
