Here Comes Prince Charming

October 23rd, 2007 @ 10:29 am by Mrs. Jasmine

On the day of a traditional Indian wedding, the groom travels to the wedding site with a huge procession of his family and friends. This procession is called a baraat (pronounced bah-rath). It’s a festive and jubilant parade, complete with dhol (drum) players, bhangra dancing, and singing. Surrounded by his baraathi/entourage, the groom is either on foot, elephant, horse, or slow-moving sports car. ;)

Check out this You Tube video of an extravagant baraat where the groom arrives via helicopter and then elephant!

What’s your vote for how Mr. Jasmine should make his grand entrance? What method of transportation are you using on your wedding day?

Naturally, I pick elephant too. Or perhaps his groomsmen carrying him on some sort of decorated platform?

Horse - Traditional, classic, not too over the top or in your face. I loved the horse photos from knottie SAB78’s wedding. http://www.hollandphotoarts.com/blog/2006.asp 4th post down.
