Engagement Pictures

October 24th, 2007 @ 5:08 pm by Mrs. Chickadee

This afternoon Mr. Chickadee and I are having our second set of engagement pictures taken. We went down to Bloomington a couple weeks ago for a photo session with out photographer, Mark Romine, but the weather just didn’t cooperate. It was cold, overcast, and got dark way too quickly for our 5:30 appointment.

Luckily today is a gorgeous fall day! The plan is to dress up in the same clothes as last time and combine all the best pics into one set of fantastic engagement pictures. But one question is lingering over the whole thing…what are we going to do with these pictures?

Our photographer does offer a great option of creating a guest book out of the pictures, but we just haven’t decided if it’s worth the extra $300. There’s really no place for the pictures in our Save the Dates, either.

So what are you guys doing with your e-pics? Any fantastic suggestions or creative ideas for us?

Maybe you could send them out as Christmas or Happy New Years cards..or use them as your thank you notes for the bridal shower or wedding gifts. Also if you get the prints from photographer to keep, you dont have to order the fancy albums from them.. bring it to somewhere like Costco and get them done up there for much cheaper. Or buy a montage picture frame and make a small collage using two or three pics. We never took engagement pics, but I wish we did now.

use MyPublisher or shutterfly to create books — keep a coffee table pic for you, use as guestbook, etc.

You can make a thank you card with the images for all of your presents up until the wedding — you can add to an OOT newsletter, favor tags, table numbers — lots of ideas!

Honestly, we didn’t end up doing a whole lot with them…but they are great pictures and I’m really glad to have them.

We did put them on our wedding website, and planned to make a guestbook with them. But then a friend made us a guestbook as a shower gift so I used that instead.

If you don’t want to spend $300 on a guestbook, you could probably manage to make a pretty nice one using blurb, mypublisher, or picabo.

I’ve heard of other brides using their e-pics as table numbers. Or you could incorporate them into your program or favor tags.

yes I was going to create a guestbook using picaboo or mypublisher. I think I might use one for our christmas cards too…

We used them EVERYWHERE. We had some framed for the engagment party, used some in the guest book area for that, STDs, custom stamps, OOT bag newpaper, stickers, our wedding website, and had four blown up for people to sign the mattes for the wedding.

We figured if we are paying for this, we are going to get FULL use out of them! ;)

We did a guest book (but did it through pictage and spent $300+). Oh well. And have a small one framed and hanging in the hallway (this one we printed cheap at the Duane Reade). And the wedding website…That’s about it.

You should ABSOLUTELY have them as your guestbook. Think about how many times you will actually look at your guestbook if it is simply a “roster” of all the people who attended. Also, what better way to share your e pics with all of the people at your wedding than to allow them to flip through the book and sign their names.

As others have said, make your own guestbook!! My Mypublisher one was $62 (I had a promo code) and got lots of compliments! I definitely enjoy flipping thru it still… I also used them in my program, see my post

as well as our on website! Many many uses…

We used them for our local newspaper announcement, framed up for our signed mattes at the wedding, wedding website, we also had mini cards from moo.com made and included it with our invites (we put our wedding website on the back of the cards) and finally pic was featured at our showers.

It was included in our package, so our photograhper put together a guest book out of the best photos. We also used them in our newspaper announcement and for non-wedding photos we wanted in our house. I like having a picture of us looking nice without them all being wedding photos.

I think couples usually have e pix framed in their house more often than wedding photos. Sometimes wedding photos can look a bit cheesy, whereas the engagement pictures really look great in frames on the wall.

You can also use them for thank you post cards, Christmas cards, etc.

Oh also, I got a MyPoints email saying vistaprint is offering free photo calendars. If I had the photos already, I’d put them into a 2008 calendar. And maybe your parents and/or friends would like to have something along those lines as well.

I had planned to use ours for a guest book. However, my photographer wants $500 for the cd of the photos and about $200 to make a guest book for us. So I guess we’ll just order prints of what we want and display them somewhere. We will be using one for a guest book frame.

I have a friend who is taking them for us this Sunday and I’m going to use them on the Save The Dates, the website and on the ceremony program.

I’m also thinking of using them in the guest book, but I’m going to do the guest book a little different. Instead of just having people sign their names, I’m going to get a scrapbook and paste vellum envelopes in them and have people sign cards that fit into the envelopes with little notes, etc., so it’s more that just a “roster” as someone said. I’ll probably sprinkle the photos throughout the book, interspersed with the envelopes.

I signed up for Davids Bridal email list (even though I didn’t get my dress from there) and they recently sent me a promotional code for a free 8 x 8 wedding memory book from shutterfly. I used my engagement photos in this book and made a guestbook.

I would just frame some and put them around your guestbook. You could also use them on your thank you cards, that way you don’t have to wait until your wedding pictures are done, if you want pictures of you two on them. Also you could make Christmas ornaments with them or have them be part of your parents gifts.

I really had to convince FH to get them done, but now that we have them, he loves them. Previously, we didn’t have any nice pictures together. I have some at work, some in nice frames at home. We’re putting them on our wedding website. And we made books from My Publisher for both our moms for Christmas presents. I really think they are just nice to have. We also didn’t pay that much money for ours.

We had three 8×10 e-pics framed and set in a few “empty” places at our reception and are now scattered throughout our house. We also used one for our newspaper announcements.

I am doing a poster with my favorite e-pics and put it in the front on our reception.

I used several of the grayscale ones in our program to spice it up. Luckily a lot of them were wide angled, so I could crop them down to very wide, thin rectangles to place at the beginning or end of a page! We also printed one that we’re going to display on the cake table along with a picture of each of the kids and cats =) Making a guest book or printing some for decor at the wedding are great ideas, too!
