Font Combos

October 24th, 2007 @ 10:34 am by Mrs. Daffodil

Now that the wedding is about six months away, we are getting ready to send out our save-the-dates soon and to launch our website! We want everything in our wedding to have a unifying theme, which brings us to carefully considering which fonts we will choose. We plan on using the same fonts on everything…our website, save-the-dates, invitations, program, etc.

The key to selecting fonts really is pairing a script font with a block font and using those throughout. Any more than that and it gets to be a bit of font overload for your guests. Lately, I’ve been playing with pairing the different fonts together as we start designing our communications. Thought I would share some of my favorite combos…!

Palatino Linotype with Aquiline:

Palatino Linotype with Scriptina:

Californian FB with MP Peony:

Bernhard Fashion BT with Gessele:

Bernhard Fashion BT with Bickham Script:

and (maybe my favorite!), Bernhard Fashion BT with LainieDaySH:
bernhard lainieday combo

The best part is, with the exception of Bernhard Fashion and Bickham Script, the rest of these fonts are free online! I found most of these on dafont.com, WebpagePublicity, SimplyTheBestFonts, and AbtractFonts.

So I’m curious to hear…What are other favorite combos out there? And which of these above do you like? smiley4

I have a confession….I’m a total font geek. I have tons of fonts and I organize them by category, and print them all out so I instantly know what each ones look like.

But I have to admit that I’ve been a bit lazy with my fonts lately and I haven’t been downloading new ones as much. I LOVE LainieDaySH!!!! I’m currently working on designing my invitations and I may just use it as well! Thanks, Miss Daffodil!

There’s something very clean and appealing about #3. I know that sounds weird when you’re talking about fonts, but it’s true! :)

The third one is a great combination, Miss Daffodil! I also love the combination of Adobe Garamond Pro and Bickham Script Pro (it’s a little less “frilly” than the one you’ve shown in example 5). Let us know which combo you decide!

the last one! LainieDaySH is our wedding font! We’ve used it on our save-the-dates and i can’t wait to get started on designing everything else. We didn’t use a block font, just LD, which looked really cool and a bit different. I like it with Bernhard fashion though, we might use that for our programs as a whole program of LD might be a bit much!

I don’t really like the first two Bernhards, but I LOVE the rest of them!

I love the first one; it looks like it’s been drawn from an ink well. And it’s easy for me to read.

in #2, the font makes it look like “daffrodil” to me. i know, you won’t actually have the word daffodil on your invites, but still. :) it’s hard for me to like it because of that.

6 is my favorite as well. Second favorite is 3.

I was in love with Cezanne but the font didn’t fit the design I well, designed. French Script was a better match. I used it with a simple form of the Engravers font.

i like the first and last one. i did quite enjoy scriptina for a while until i started seeing it everywhere.

i’ve become a bit of a font geek myself so i appreciate the post. it’s hard going through all of the available free font offerings to find something you like.

One of my favorite font combos, which I used on most of our wedding stationery is Cooperplate Gothic (Light & Bold) and Afternoon Delight (we both love this font!). Unfortunately, we had to use Vietnamese & Chinese fonts on the main portions of our invites, but I used this combo everywhere else.

Oh, I forgot to mention that Afternoon Delight is the free version Zapfino, which started my love affair with fonts. I do have both though through the kindness of some knotties.

Our combo was P22 Dearest Swash and LHF Romano Classico. It worked very well together.

Of the above, I like 1 and 3.

hmm i like the last one except i feel like the block letters look like comic sans from MSWord.

we used dafont.com too! lillith was our only font for all the stationery, and we changed it up by using small caps vs. lowercase.

Oooh I love this post…SO helpful. For cursvie I liked Cygnet Round and for a mored modern look I like Lyonesse.

Miss Daffodil I looked on the sites you gave for MP Peony but didn’t see it…I think I might be missing something…do you remember which site it was for that font in particular?

The second one.

I got mine free from the net - Felix Titling for stuff pre-wedding - invites, Order of Service etc, and then a mixture of that and Yummy Apology (great name!) for after the wedding - table plans, place cards etc.

We just got married on Saturday (the 20th), and we Lainie Day for EVERYTHING (StDs, invites, programs, menus, rehearsal dinner, etc), and it is so pretty, yet also fun. The block font I used for everything was Cochin, check it out!!
