The Big Party

October 25th, 2007 @ 8:26 am by Mrs. Onion

I’ve been dying to share some more photos of our flowers, but was patiently waiting for our professional photos to do so. Just when I was getting restless waiting, our amazing and sweet florist, Dana Barrow from Fresh Floral Design Studio in Vermont emailed me to say that she had featured our wedding on her website. So cool!

My stunning bouquet

One of the things I love about the way that Dana approaches floral design as well as her communication style, is she really thinks about how it all comes together. She has a great section on her website which shares all the elements that go into an event, and not just a bunch of bouquets and centerpieces from an entire career’s worth of work. This is akin to asking a photographer to see a few examples of one couple’s entire day instead of their “greatest hits” on their website from every wedding they ever photographed.

Now, on with the beautiful flowers…

Bridesmaids bouquets

Pew decorations

Altar flowers

Beautiful tables with lavender bundle place cards (with mini-moo cards attached)

On each table there were candles on square plates with lavender buds to continue the lavender bundles look

The altar flowers were moved to the bar (aka the head table) at the restaurant — they fit right in!

In the center of both long tables were tall cylinder vases filled with pears — marzipan pears also appeared on our cake and on the sticker of half of our favor boxes was a “perfect pair” monogram.

Dana was a treat to work with. She went to our church and reception location to get inspiration from the space, she looked at pictures of my dress, my bridesmaids attire, Mr. Onion’s suit fabric and spent a lot of time really understanding our style. She isn’t just a florist, although the flowers are beautiful. She really approached the event as a reflection of our taste and our love for each other and created a feeling that was just perfect.

To see our wedding flowers featured on her website, click here and then click on the center image on the top row — The Big Party, Adriana’s, Burlington, VT.

I was thrilled and would highly recommend her to any bride.

Hey, thanks for posting this! I was thinking about tulips for our flower decorations. This was really helpful to see in action so to speak.

Jennifer says:

What kind of flowers did she use for your bridesmaid bouquets? They’re beautiful! All the flowers are beautiful…she and you have great taste!

I love it! Especially the pew decorations! :-D Can’t wait to see the professional photos….if they’re anything like these, I’d be drooling over my keyboard.

I have to say, seeing that little editor’s note on the bottom makes the post seem so…I don’t know….legal.

It’s like, “just in case you thought Ms. Onion was a big liar and doing this for the money, she’s not.” It just doesn’t sit well with me.

Oooo…so, so pretty. :)

Jen - I will admit, the caveat took me by surprise as well, even though we were duly warned. However, it is sadly necessary considering the response we have been receiving lately from commenters other than yourself. In the end, I am sure we will all get used to it.

Impatience says:

Soooo pretty! I love your bouquets.

Where did you get the tin pails for the pews? I’ve been looking all over for those.

cs says:

Flowers are gorgeous!

But, I agree the legal disclaimer is jarring (which surprised me as I was expecting it). What do you think of maybe instead of the whole statement, just have a link saying “disclaimer” or “vendor policy” a the end?

13.
gji7 says:

Perhaps that note should be stated differently for a few reasons - not least of which - I know what you are going for with the disclaimers, but didn’t Mrs. Onion pay the florist? And doesn’t that fall under the category of “financial relationship?”

Mr. Bee says:

Hey guys - thanks for all the feedback on the disclaimer. It’s meant to be an experiment, so this feedback is invaluable!

If you have any thoughts on how to word the disclaimer, would love to hear ‘em…

Of all the bees I have had the most fun and gotten the most use out of your florists’ site…it’s just so full of great things to look at. I remember when you first posted about her and I was so impressed with her site. She’s very talented.

Jennifer — my bridesmaid bouquets had lush white roses, purple freesia, and delphinium.

Sara — our moo cards had our engagement pictures on one side, and the other side I had our calligrapher write our guests names on. No two cards were the same at each table so people started looking at the photos around them! Here are some pictures of the photo side:

And the inspiration photo: http://tinyurl.com/ypnl24

Impatience: Thanks! My bouquet was made up of white bouvardia, ranunculus and waxflower as well as green hydrangea. the green was subtle and slightly muted so it read as if it were all white but very lush and tailored at the same time!

cs — I agree — perhaps a link to “vendor policy” would be enough. what does everyone else think?

The tin pails were something my florist purchased for us. She said “she’d wanted them for a while and was glad to have an excuse to buy them!”

BaghdadBride — looks like we were commenting at the same time. I am so glad you’ve gotten so much from Dana’s website. I LOVE the way she has all her work organized — so inspiration for those of us who don’t really know what we want.

I remember I asked her who took all her stunning photos on her website and I was so impressed when she said she took them all herself! Enjoy as she updates frequently.

Wow! Everything looks FANTASTIC!

Kels says:

Another option would be to just exclude “please check her out and tell her so and so sent you.” The rave review implies you think we should check her out. Then there is no need for the disclaimer, you are just expressing your opinion of the serivces.

luie says:

Gosh, that first wedding bouquet is just to die for. They were really lovely and gorgeous.

Regina says:

It’s all so beautiful. I liked how you explained how the elements were tied together. I’ve been racking my brains to figure out how to tie my wedding decor together — I’m not really working with a set theme — and I’m running out of ideas to pull the look together. Thanks!

Mrs. Onion says:

Regina — I didn’t have a “theme” either. First we thought of giving Harry & David Royal Riviera pears as favors but sigh, the crop comes a little later.

From that idea I found some amazing marzipan pears from http://www.marzipanworld.com (made in Italy) and Mr. Onion loves marzipan, so on with the cake for further inspiration. Then we decided to include the pears on the tables (more green) and a favor boxes with a pear monogram. That’s as far as we took it, but those few elements really tied things together.

Wendi Leigh says:

Along the line with a “pear theme”, have a look at these invitations with pears incorporated…
