Pass The Vino

October 26th, 2007 @ 6:26 pm by Mrs. Chickadee

What could be better on a rainy Friday than a DIY project!

A few weeks ago I tuned into Martha Stewart’s show and saw Darcy Miller showing off some of her great ideas for weddings. I absolutely fell in love with one of her table settings, which showed up on her blog soon after.

Of course I loved the floral table runner, but what really caught my eye was the wine bottle. What a creative way to number the tables! Now, Mr. Chickadee and I are far from connoisseurs, but we do enjoy a glass of wine with dinner every once and awhile, and certainly wanted nice wine selections for our wedding reception. It just seemed perfect to use the bottles to label each table.

So today I did a little trial run of our numbered wine bottles. On the way home from the post office I swung by Friar Tuck’s and picked up a yummy bottle of Merlot. Ok, I didn’t really care what it tasted like, I just browsed the aisles looking for a pretty bottle!

Next I designed a new label, nice and simple. The dimensions were 3.75″ by 5″ but that could be changed depending on whatever bottle you choose. I made it really simple, with the number in the font Ecolier and the word “table” in DaunPenh. I printed it off on some scrap paper I had in my craft room, which was a pretty thick, textured white cardstock.

After cutting it with my handy paper cutter, I adhered it to the bottle, right over the old label! At first I thought I’d have to remove the original label, but Darcy said on the show that they just covered it up. If it’s good enough for Martha Stewart, it’s good enough for me!

I just took a glue stick to stick it on the bottle, but I think when I do it “for real” I’ll use glue dots instead, as I don’t think the glue stick will seal it permanently. But this is the finished product!

So, what are you doing to spice up your table settings?

I saw this idea too! I love it- I am a huge wino though. So would you only put on the red wine then for the table numbers, and would you label what kind of red wine it was? Just seeing how you are planning on doing it- I am debating between the wine bottles or candles with the table numbers in them - a la

I saw these in Darcy’s blog too, and I loved them! However, my venue does not allow outside liquor so we scrapped the idea. I’m looking forward to seeing what others did, and I really like Karen’s idea above!

are you going to use them on bottles that will be opened for dinner? or just for display?

Our tables numbers have a movie quote printed underneath the number. Every movie had to have a wedding in it, and every table is a different quote. The quote that corresponds with the table is on the seating cards as well. We wrote the movie name on the back on the frame. My movie quote loving FI had a ball with this project.

Looks great! Try using double stick tape. It works great with glass.

Im also curious as to how the wine will be used… will guests at that table simply share it and drink it or what? will it be given away as a prize? i think its great because it also saves money on centepieces…its sooo simple and elegant looking; i love it!!! excellent idea!

We are doing something similar. We have been collecting our used wine bottles over the last few months (we like wine so getting 22 bottles in 18 months wasn’t exactly a crushing blow for us :). Once I removed the labels I took large 5×5 Avery off white labels and printed the names of different types of wine on each table for the table number. So one table is Chardonnay another is Pinot Noir etc. I stamped them with a stamp that goes with our invitations and then on the back of the wine bottle where the explaination of the wine would normally be I put a quote about wine and love. I did 5 different quotes so the tables are a little different. They will be just for decoration since our venue doesnt allow outside food or beverage either, hence the empty bottles.

Our whole wedding has a sort of wine theme: from our place card holders which are used wine corks to our centerpieces which include grapes in them and our venue is in a town known for their wines. It only seemed fitting that our table numbers reflect it too. :) Had I not already done our bottles I would soo be all about doing these they are really nice.

I would LOVE to know what your wine and love quotes are, I can’t find a one that incorporates them both!!
Thanks so much!
