Spelling Bee

October 26th, 2007 @ 1:41 pm by Reader Buzz

I’ve noticed that different people spell weddingbee in different ways.

I tend to spell it “weddingbee” - all lower case.

Mr. Bee goes off how it looks in the logo: “Weddingbee”, with a capital W.

And I’ve seen a lot of people spell it as two words: “Wedding Bee”.

We should probably standardize on something!

How do you spell the name of this site?

i definitely see it as one word….it doesn’t matter to me whether it’s with a capital “w” or not….two words is awkward looking

I think I interchange because I was never sure what it was supposed to be- so I just followed how everyone else was typing it!
However, most often I use: “Weddingbee”
Because that’s how it looks in the logo. :)

Same with Missy Jenn, here. I use it all as one word, but sometimes capitalize it. Of course, I usually just say “WB” when I talk to someone in the “know”.

I think I probably spell it differently every single time I write the word…but I kind of like the all lower case.

I would have to say all lower case. Its easier to type out.

I feel that Weddingbee is a proper noun and so it should be capitalized. And it definitely should be one word: Weddingbee is the entity which houses wedding bees (see the distinction?) so I feel that splitting it into two words would be misleading since there is more than one bee in the hive. Just my two cents.

hahaha….I’ve never noticed that before. I guess I just treat it as two seperate words since in every day use they would be. (Nevermind the great big header! :) )

I type it as all lowercase, one word. I like how it looks..but was never sure if it was proper or not!

As an MBA student in a brand management class, I now look at things from a consumer point of mind. Because this is a website-based business, “weddingbee” makes it consistent with the URL and reminds people where to go to access the product. With that in mind I would also recommend changing the logo to “weddingbee” for uniformity.

I think it’s great that you’re considering standardization! All great brands are standard in their logo (think Coca-Cola).

I don’t understand the logic of spelling it all lowercase because that’s how it’s spelled in the URL. Every company that has a website spells its name in all lowercase in the website URL, so Shirls I don’t think that has anything to do with brand management (though you have a good point about standardization). Just because Starbucks’ name is starbucks in the URL, that does not mean you don’t capitalize the name when referring to it as a company in writing. The URL is not your company name, it’s an address. A company name is just that: a name. It’s a proper noun and therefore should be capitalized.

As such, I refer to it as Weddingbee!

Sorry for the slight rant. Improper grammar is a major pet peeve of mine.

Weddingbee. Because that’s what it says on the logo.

Hi smartl, I definitely hear you about improper grammar (I hate it too!), and my point is not to advocate poor grammar but sending a message with the brand/logo.

In any case, it was just my two cents. I leave the decision to the wise Mrs. Bee :)

All great things are capitalized! :P Plus, I think it adds a bit more credibility and the feeling of establishment (although i type in all lowercase so much I’m somewhat of a hypocrite). But still!
