The Bridesmaids’ Gifts

October 26th, 2007 @ 2:11 pm by Mrs. Tulip

One of my first wedding-planning acts was to buy gifts for my bridesmaids.  In fact, I bought them before our engagement was even official!  But I found the perfect thing and wasn’t sure it would be available forever:

Turns out the World Food Programme Feed Bag (whose name brings to mind that thing they put oats into and strap onto a horse’s snout!) is still available from Amazon.com, for $59.95.  Yes, it’s a tote bag, which is not the world’s most unusual bridesmaids’ gift.  BUT, this one has a special wrinkle – part of the purchase price goes to the UN Food Programme to feed one child for an entire school year.  My fashionable-yet-world-conscious bridesmaids are going to love both the stylish reusable bag AND the act of generosity that goes with it.

With 5 months till the wedding, I’ll probably grow restless and end up adding little gifts inside the bags … any suggestions?  What unusual gifts are you giving your bridesmaids?

you could put more eco friendly items…Whole Foods has a great brand of face/body products where the packaging is infused with seeds. You just plant the whole thing in your garden!

Love the FEED bags– what a thoughtful, eco-friendly gift that they will actually use! I also love the idea of filling it with bath and body treats from Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s.

I’m doing tote bags filled with goodies also. I have three very girly, chic bridesmaids and one BM who is a major tomboy. She hates fashion and is a bit of a treehugger and really into social issues. This is the perfect tote bag for her :) I’ll give my other three girls some cute tote bags but my tomboy BM wouldn’t appreciate that.

I haven’t decided completely on which goodies will go inside the bags, but I think for sure I will be including a pair of flip flips in my wedding colour for them to dance the night away in at the reception (the colours are blue & green, I figure those are good colours for the real world after the wedding!) I’m thinking Havaiana brand flip flops. Other ideas include personalized notepads on recycled paper, bath & body products, a piece of jewelry, a magazine they like or a book they want, and a pair of sunglasses.
