We have a jumbo mini-dachshund (seriously, he's huuuuge), and we're planning an autumn themed wedding on a shoestring, paid for by ourselves. The wedding date is my late grandma's birthday, I needed her there somehow, and that seemed like the best way for us. I can't believe I'm a Bee! I couldn't be more proud!

About Mrs. Kiwi

Hello From CrazyTown

October 29th, 2007 @ 1:26 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

Hi everyone! Countdown is on. Countdown to how long it will take to lose it! Honestly, while I’m terribly enjoying this time of single-hood before the wedding on Saturday, I’m also finding out there are more and more things to do. Let me list them:

- I must pick up the centerpiece vases from the valley - an hour long drive if there is traffic.

- I must also pick up a hot glue gun or some of that 3M Double stick tape. Somehow I trust the glue gun more, although I was banned from using anything with the words “hot” and “glue” when I was a girl scout.

- While picking up that tape, I must also get some more of those handy colored bead/marbley things to put in the centerpieces. They should have that at JoAnn’s right?

- Finish the favors. Out of 150, I am currently on 33. To do each favor, I must cut ribbon to fit, and stick a monogram stick on the top, joining the ribbon. Unfortunately, my stickers are a little large, so I must TRIM EVERY ONE OF THEM. Those of you attending the wedding who are reading this: I apologize if there is blood on your ribbon.

- Trim the labels for the place cards. Sadly, the label is too large for the card and hangs off a bit. So I am forced to trim those.

- Send in the final guest totals. This has struck me with more fear than anything else. For some reason I’ve had a hard time with numbers, and can’t seem to add things correctly. To meet our minimum balance, we added 7 plates to the list. Hopefully this will be a good precaution against those family members who said they wouldn’t make it, and now can- they WILL have something to eat other than cake!!

Things that don’t have to be done, but still need “preparing” for:

- Get ready to wake up at 5:30am for my makeup. When the makeup artist said “Bright and early”, sadly, she meant “still dark and early”. Still, I am super excited to have my schedule for that morning set.

- Telling Mr. Kiwi on Friday that I will “See him at the altar.” When thought of that way, it’s scary!

- Figuring out which day to get my manicure. Do I really want to get my nails done with my hair in curlers?

Word to the wise: do not let your fiance buy Guitar Hero the week before your wedding. While you are cutting stickers to fit onto your boxes, he will be attempting to destroy all that you love about “Free Bird”. Don’t let him guilt you by saying, “This is the last weekend of fun I’ll have to play it!” Heeey, what’s THAT supposed to mean??

Anyway, with five days left until “I Do”, I’m still struggling to do my actual work, while doing my “wedding work”. Sometimes these worlds shall collide. Above all, I’m starting to get to the point of “if it’s done, it’s done.”

Ah, sounds like typical week-before-the-wedding craziness! Good luck finishing everything, but remember to take time to relax too!

And yes, they should have those marble things at joann’s… if not, i’ve seen them at crate & barrel too.

Just keep telling yourself that you’ll never feel this madness again (in a good way) so relish in it. :) Also, I think you should get yoru nails done before Saturday. They still look good and it’ll be one less thing to worry about. GL!

Tell him to play ‘It’s the Final Countdown’! Then at least he won’t be destroying a song that you love! :D

Have fun with your last week as a singleton!

My wedding is this Saturday, so I totally understand your pain! Now I realize why people have wedding coordinators–the hardest part has been coordinating all the little final details, confirming with everyone, and making sure everyone has the info they need, all the while finishing up those last minute projects (programs… menus… place cards… and we are not even giving out favors…thank goodness!), and still managing to be productive at work!

So…no more weddingbee for me today. Off to the printers to get programs done!

What has saved me has been to really decide what details are most important, and just let the rest go if it doesn’t really matter. Menus, for example. A nice touch, sure, but people will survive if they are not there.

Good luck this week and congratulations!

Last week was a holy terror for me, and I finished my favors weeks before the wedding week!

You hang in there, sista. Lean on us when you need to. The wedding day is well worth it (even though I still wasn’t able to eat right even at the reception! Food wasn’t appetizing to me until about 12:30 a.m. when we were at the after party at our fave bar…thank goodness they served food until 2 a.m.!), and now that it’s all over, I’m finding that none of those small things mattered, really…all that matters now is me getting used to saying “husband” instead of “fiance.” Very strange…
