Hidden Treasures

October 30th, 2007 @ 2:56 pm by Mrs. Chickadee

I love finding things I forgot I owned!

A couple months ago, Mr. Chickadee and I had his parents over dinner. This, of course, meant we had to spend all day cleaning the apartment. For the first time in a while, all the surfaces of our apartment were cleared of the wedding magazine and half-crafted invitation clutter, revealing my savvy decorating scheme… which is less savvy and more like all the picture frames we’ve been given over the last 4 years. (We are slowly converting pictures of us to pictures of other loved ones, as we realized it’s awkward to put up 50 pictures of just yourselves all over the house).

Almost exactly a year ago Mr. Chickadee and I were in NYC with his parents for a week. In preparation for the theater we’d be seeing, I went out and doubled my fancy dress wardrobe. Mr. Chickadee’s mom picked this particular dress out for me to wear to Wicked, and though I wasn’t in love with it at the time, it’s sort of grown on me. Plus, I found it on major clearance for $14 at Von Maur. This picture is currently framed and gracing our dresser:

(Yes, with all of New York City at our disposal, this is a picture of us inside the darn hotel room!)

Anyway, what caught my eye today was that this dress has an attached brooch! I had totally forgotten since I haven’t worn it since that day.

Here’s a close-up of the brooch, though it’s just sort of cut out of the above picture so it’s not too clear:

The reason this is particularly exciting is that I’ve recently decided I may want to add a brooch to my dress. Blame it on all the magazines and wedding photos I’ve been seeing lately, but I think I need some added bling. My dress has this lovely bow on the bottom half, that I think might look good with a brooch attached:

(Imagine, though, that the bow is tied a little better, they had it untied previously because apparently many girls aren’t fans of the bow look)

And here, with my Photoshop skillz put to the test:

It could work right? I’ll obviously have to take it with me to the first fitting and see if the size is right, but it’s at least the possibility that I’ll save myself some good $, and that’s something Mr. Chickadee can always appreciate!

LOVE the yellow dress on you, but i’m not sure how the brooch would look on your dress. any way you can post a picture of the whole dress with the brooch on it?

I think the brooch looks great. It really helps define the shape of the bow. Your dress looks finished with the brooch, if that makes sense.

I’m generally against the trend of superfluous brooches, but that dress is crying out for one. It looks fantastic!

That yellow dress is gorgeous…your MIL has great taste…I’m happy it’s grown on you b/c you look great in it. I like the simplicity of the dress without the brooch but it looks good with the bling as well. You can’t really go wrong.

the brooch adds an extra oomph and classic beauty to ur already gorgeous dress. plus it will draw more eye attention towards the flair of the bottom of the dress. in other words: LOVE IT!
