About Miss Lovebird

The Proposal

October 30th, 2007 @ 1:50 pm by Mrs. Lovebird

How this all started…

It was September 2006. He was adamant that we stay at the all-inclusive Le Blanc Spa Resort, the #1 rated hotel on Tripadvisor, and I was pestering him that it was a waste so money to spend so much for a “regular” weekend getaway. We had been going out for over 5 and 1/2 years at this point. When the driver heard we were staying at Le Blanc, he asked if it was our honeymoon and I bitterly said, “No” and gave Mr. Lovebird a mean stare, jokingly of course.

The moment we stepped into the hotel the concierge greeted us by name, which I found a little strange, but I figured that’s what service at the “best hotel” in Cancun is like. We got an ocean-view room on the top floor without even asking; I figured we just lucked out. The concierge also asked if we were celebrating a special occasion and once again I replied with a “No.”

We get to the room and there’s champagne and flowers, and I’m thinking, so this is what they mean by all-inclusive and didn’t really think anything of it. Once the bellboy left, Mr. Lovebird whips out his camera and does the touristy thing of taping the gorgeous room, and all of a sudden he says ”OMG, what’s that.” What happens next is a little of a blur, but it was pretty much me freaking out, thinking it can’t be what I think it is because there is no way. And when I saw “it” I closed the box immediately and started freaking out and crying. Mind you all of this is on tape. Then he gets down on one knee and asks “the question.”

When we left our room to have lunch a little later, we had a few of the hotel staff congratulating us and one even asked if we liked the “flowers” he put in our room. Apparently, my boyfriend, now fiance was in constant contact with the hotel before we got there planning this ”surprise engagement.”

Cancun will forever hold a special place in our hearts so it wasn’t a hard decision to pick it as our wedding destination.

I was first inspired by Mrs. Ant to have a destination wedding. Her wedding was absolutely beautiful and her guests seemed to have a wonderful time. I only hope mine could be half as successful as hers. Wish me luck!

What an awesome proposal story! Your FI went through a lot of work. How did he get the ring in the room? Did he send it to them, or did he whip it out in front of you?

Sara~ he had it in his carry-on luggage the whole time and was extremely nervous about it. He was afraid he would be picked to have his things gone through by customs and even thought about writing them a little note to not look in the box if he were to get picked. Luckily nothing like that happened. Funny thing is, he actually threw it in the jacuzzi we had in the room. It was in it’s wooden box, inside a white box and inside a ziplock bag. Yes, a ziplock bag! Why you ask? He read reviews online that sometimes the personal butler shows you to your room and prepares the jacuzzi for you. Unfortunately for him, ours must have been busy doing something else that day. It didn’t go exactly as he planned but he was so anxious the whole time leading up to it that he just wanted to get it over with in a sense. He said he was going to wait for a romantic stroll on the beach that night, but he couldn’t take it any longer and had to propose the moment we got to the room. I didn’t even notice him throwing the box in the jacuzzi cuz I was busy unpacking.

My guy proposed to me in Mexico too! Our trip didn’t start off well, I lost my camera on the bus on the way to the resort! I was NOT happy. He proposed the next day, and that REALLY made things better! Hooray for Mexico proposals! And extra hooray for my guy’s luck at NOT getting searched at the airport (I would have seen the ring!)
