About Miss Lovebird

Le Blanc Spa Resort

October 31st, 2007 @ 10:31 am by Mrs. Lovebird

I can’t believe it’s been over a year since we got engaged. I can remember the details pretty clearly, but at the same time, it seems like it was ages ago. I still have the priceline itinerary saved:

Departing Flight Information - Friday, September 22, 2006

American Airlines Flight1671
3h 55m, 1556mi

From
New York City - John F Kennedy Intl(JFK)
New York City, NY
Departs:10:55 A.M.

To
Cancun Intl(CUN)
Cancun, Mexico
Arrives:1:50 P.M.

I am embarrassed to admit this, but on the plane ride down there, I made a comment to Mr. Lovebird that if he were to propose on this trip, he would be a stellar boyfriend. Granted, I only made that comment to tease him. For months leading up to our trip I had been constantly teasing him about how “my finger was getting itchy” because it seemed like everyone in law school was either married or engaged. It is hard not to notice all the bling when everyone is on laptops and the fingers are tapping away. My friend Hope actually got engaged a couple of weeks before we left for the trip and she asked me when I thought Mr. Lovebird was gonna propose. I remember telling her, “Ha, not anytime soon that’s for sure.”

Maybe I’m just an evil person because the reason I teased him so much was because I loved to see him squirm. He would always say, “Stop it Miss Lovebird! I’m not ready!” Looking back on it, I don’t think I was even ready to be engaged; I just thought his reactions were funny. Because his reactions were always so negative, I didn’t let myself think it could actually happen anytime soon. Little did I know, he was planning all along.

I didn’t think anything of it when he said we should go to Cancun for a long weekend. We both loved going there and I was like, “Why not!” He insisted it would be his treat and that we should go all out and stay at the best all-inclusive hotel in Cancun. When we were reading the reviews on Tripadvisor, I got even more excited about the trip and was actually really glad we splurged on Le Blanc.

When my dad saw the pictures of the resort, he said, “I want to go too!” But in the end he backed out because he was leaving for China the very next week. Mr. Lovebird told me later that he was actually getting nervous that my mom and dad were contemplating tagging along. I also found out later that he had asked my parents’ permission to ask for my hand before we left for the trip. In the video of the proposal, you can see amongst my crying that I ask him, “Who knows?” and he replies, “My parents, and your parents” and then I cry even more and say, “I can’t believe my parents knew and could keep a secret!”

Le Blanc was simply amazing. All the staff were excellent and the place was gorgeous. Of course it would be great to have our wedding there since it holds so much history for us, but we could not justify the cost for our friends and family.

If money isn’t an issue for you or your guests, having a wedding at Le Blanc would be heaven! They are adamant about your guests staying at the hotel or else you would have to buy them a day pass for $100 a person ($78 if you stay at a Palace Resort).

My only regret is not knowing to use macro mode on the camera while I was taking picture of the ring. You can’t blame me for being a little ring crazy! I leave you with a few more pictures from the trip:

We watched the video of the proposal on our engagement anniversary. I’m interested to know if other people celebrate the day they got engaged. What do you and your honey do to mark this special occasion?

1. I want to go to Cancun, right now.
2. I love your ring!

As for your question, I don’t know. We’ve “only” been engaged since February so we’re not that closed to the one year mark yet. I imagine it wouldn’t be too big, maybe just a nice dinner. :)

I haven’t passed the one-year mark either, but I don’t even remember the exact day! It was the last week of May, I *think*. I feel downright neglectful, looking at all your photos and the story!

We don’t celebrate it per se, but I do have a mind for dates, so every month I’ll just say, “Oh, did you know we’ve been engaged for X months?”

And FH always counts it as one of the happiest days of his life. “The day I met you, the day I proposed, and the day we’ll get married.” He’s too sweet!

I love your ring, too! Where is it from? Since I’m still in “itchy finger” stage, I love finding sites to look at rings. The vacation looks awesome. Glad you had such a great time!

We also were engaged on a trip. We’d planned a weekend trip to Snowshoe Mtn right after he finished up with a medical training program - you know how the end of school is - a trip away was needed! We also splurged on much nicer lodging then we usually do!

I’d love to relive that weekend every Dec 15th with a trip back to Snowshoe - but we can’t really justify the expense when there is rarely snow by then! Instead we’ll prob just say ‘Hey, it’s Dec 15th - remember when you proposed - and how nervous you were, and how I wouldn’t shut up and allow you to ask the question!’

Of course we head to the same resort at least twice a winter and I always point out the hot tub we were in when we drive by Rimfire Lodge :) It’s great to have that memory at a place we spend so much time!

meleven~ Mr. Lovebird had my ring custom made at a jewelers on Diamond Row in NY. But he was inspired by this ring.
