How The Flamingos Met

November 1st, 2007 @ 1:49 pm by Mrs. Flamingo

In my introductory post, I talked about why M. Flamingo and I considered ourselves to be pink, one legged (the majority of the time), long beaked birds. But before I continue, I just wanted to point out that I am the first Montreal Bee. Happy to be representing! :)

The flamingos in Virginia beach 2007.

So now it’s time to meet the flamingos:

During my graphic design studies, I worked as a part time cashier at a modern furniture store. I often saw people come in give their CV (resume) and leave right after. But this day was different. This guy came in, gave his CV but didn’t want to leave. He wanted to meet the big boss and wanted an interview on the spot. Talk about being sure of yourself. Either way, I called the manager at the time, and I don’t know how he did it, but he was hired! Oh and that was M. Flamingo by the way.

As soon as he started, he was on my back. For a good 8 months, day after day he would ask me to go to the movies with him and I every time I would decline his offer. I didn’t really like M. Flamingo at the time, actually, he even drove me nuts. He was all talk and no show and I didn’t like guys like that… not to be mean but he didn’t interest me.

One cold rainy night in October I felt like going to the movies after my work shift. I called all my friends but no one was available to go. So when M. Flamingo made his daily pit-stop at my cash register, I mentioned that I felt like seeing a movie and that no one could make it. I wasn’t thinking about what I had just said, and he offered to go with me. At that moment, I said to myself why not give it a try and at the same time, maybe he would stop inviting me.

I had a rule though when it came to watching movies. I would only watch the movie in its original soundtrack (the majority being English movies), but M. Flamingo speaks French. He was fine with my rule but asked if he could choose the movie. I was willing to compromise so I was okay with that… if only I knew. We went to the movie theater, M.Flamingo bought the tickets and when I looked down, I read: Chainsaw Massacre! Talk about a first movie.

After that night, we kept going to see movies. I started to know the real M. Flamingo; a sweet, kind, good-hearted person - not the all show, I know everything guy I got to know at work. We kept seeing each other for over 2 months and officially started dating: in December 2003. That’s how our story began…

Who knew I would marry the guy, that a couple of years back, I couldn’t stand being next to… isn’t it odd, how things happen?

sounds like he had the hot for you the first time he met you. wonder if it has anything to do w/ him getting the job at the furniture store to be close to you.

Ya nt - the typical guy move. Take a girl see a scary movie and she is bound to be cuddling you…

well that’s what happened with me… I hate scary movies :D

Miss F - You are so adorable, and I have a feeling that this is the same story with us…only reversed. I locked my lasers on Mr. Penguin and wouldnt take no for an answer…finally he broke down, and almost 7 years later, here we are! :) Its funny how life works.

Same story with my fiance and I except that our dislike for one another was mutual at first. He thought I was stuck up and I thought he was a lazy goof-off. Funny enough, it was a movie that turned the tides for us as well- The Sixth Sense. Isn’t it strange how things wind up sometimes?

Me, too! I thought he was crabby, he thought I was snobby… but two years later, we decided to move past that. :)

Hehe, I have a similar story too! I despised my bf when I first knew him.

I agree with everyone, you two are so cute! And it doesn’t hurt that you have a cute “How we met…” story to go along with it! =)

:) That’s so cute! My parents met in a similar way. Dad was in pursuit of Mom, Mom and her friends found him extremely annoying (he made lame cheesy jokes), but somehow fell in love with him. (He still makes the same lame cheesy jokes which are just as annoying though! :P)

I don’t understand what you mean by saying you will only watch movies in its original soundtrack - are you talking about dubbing? And if Mr. Flamingo only speaks French then how did you communicate?

Oh Annie… I admit I forgot to clarify that section. In montreal, its mostly bilingual (meaning french and english)
M. Flamingo is french like me, but I went to english school all my life. I speak both perfectly but him on the other hand - understands it. He speaks it a little but is too shy that people will laugh at him so he never does.

Thats another thing..our future kids will be going to english school - that is something we discussed even before we got engaged. The problem here in montreal, is that in english schools the french language is taught very well… but thats not the case when it comes to english in french schools…
I want our kids to speak both perfectly… its definitely been a plus for me in my life so far. :D
