About Mrs. Flamingo

A la Oscars

November 2nd, 2007 @ 9:26 am by Mrs. Flamingo

When it comes to jewelry, I go all out. I’m not the type of girl who likes the simple stuff… my friends call me Miss Glam! I was more excited about finding my jewelry than my actual dress. (Can you believe it? And yes I actually bought my jewelry before I ordered my dress.)

My dress is simple, therefore my accessories basically needed to be the WOW factor of my whole ensemble. The search wasn’t very long before I found the perfect set. I love my jewelry so much… I wear in the house once in a while. It’s an authentic Austrian crystal choker necklace with matching earrings.

Before I even looked at the price tag I knew I hadn’t chosen the cheapest one - the set was priced at $149.99. Expensive yes, but less than I thought. As I was trying on the set, I noticed a 30% off sign. Don’t we just love discounts like that??? To top things off my dad and my step-mother offered to buy it.

I love love love my set, but the only dilemma I have is with the earrings… I’m afraid it might be too much bling bling. What do you think?

Did you have or are you planning on having extravagant jewelry?

Alone the necklace is a show stopper so I would probably not have another piece competing with it. It might be a bit too flashy and over the top if you have all the bling up top. I would maybe go for a simple stud or small dangle and bracelet to even it out.

gorgeous! talk about bling!

Miss Bluebear says:

I love it! It’s so pretty! I agree wiht GreenTeaGuinnes…I think the necklace alone is gorgeous, paired with the earrings might be a bit much…but hey, you’re the bride, do what you want! BTW, do they happen to have a website?

Jilian says:

I guess it kinda depends on how you wear you hair. If it’s all up - then yeah it might be too much. It’s hard to really know without seeing the whole shebang though :) I’d say have a smaller option and decide the morning of what you feel like that day! :)

I’m leaning towards smaller bling on the ears… but then again, I don’t know what your dress looks like.

And an answer to your question, I’m not really sure what the wedding jewelry will consist of, but I generally, have simpler style when it comes to jewelry. I don’t wear much daily, so I think it would be weird for me to wear so much on my wedding day.

I do love the necklace though- it seems like it suits your personality well! :)

Those are GORGEOUS!

I would wear the necklace or the earrings, but not both. You know what Chanel always said - when accessorizing, take off the last thing you put on and it’ll be perfect. I’m guessing you put the necklace on first. :)

Those are gorgeous! Whether it’s too much bling will depend on the whole ensemble. I think both pieces are beautiful though, so hopefully you can wear them both.

As for me, I definitely plan on extravagant jewelry (see my Bejeweled post :) )

Those are absolutely fabulous.

As far as the ensemble goes, I’m a believer in having either large earrings or a large necklace, but not both. Since the necklace is so gorgeous, I would change the earrings to something smaller.

Mrs. Onion says:

I’d say one or the other. Coco Chanel always said when accessorizing, look in the mirror and take one thing off! I decided to just wear earrings as I thought a necklace would be too much and I felt very elegant. I too love bling (case in point, my e-ring — haha). BUT, my vote would be for one or the other. Just my two cents.

Thanks for the input. I too was thinking of a nice crystal stud earrings (maybe swavoski)….what the heck I could even make it myself. ( I make jewelry… but started only after I bought mine: http://www.kaicreations.ca

My hair will be up, so we will see them either way. As for a website, sorry…its a local company. But while I was looking for jewlery I happened to come across this one. Maybe that could help: http://www.glamforless.com/

Very pretty, Miss Flamingo! I think we’ll have to see the dress to make our final decision :) Will that come soon?!

Holy Bling, Batman! Both are pretty amazing but together a bit overwhelming. Both Miss Dahlia and Coco Chanel (channeled through Mrs. Onion) have sage advice.

I would think about wearing smaller earrings, maybe even just studs, and using the earrings as hair pins. You really need an updo to show off the necklace, and you could use one or both of the earrings to set off your hair. That way they wouldn’t compete with the necklace so much.

Rose says:

Either do the necklace OR the earrings for a stunning but classy look. You don’t want to look gaudy–think Kimora Lee Simmons.

Less is more. I’d go with either one. Pretty bling!

Camillec says:

It is so stunning. I do think that together, it might be a bit much. Is there anyway to get the earrings sized down to just maybe the 2 end flowers? Does that make sense? Just so it matches but not as overpowering. I think the necklace should be the star - for the jewelry - You are the real star!

JoJo says:

I might be going against the grain here, but I love them both! I think they’d look great together. I am all about the dramatic, sparkly jewelry, and given the glam theme of your wedding, I think the ensemble will be fabulous!

Mrs Lily says:

I don’t know. For me, I would do one or the other. But, some girls can really pull off lots of bling. If you think you can do it, I say go for it! You should feel like whatever fairy princess you see in your own head!

Faithsista says:

I will give everyone a dollar if they stop using that word to describe sparkly jewelry. Drives me NUTS. :P (I can’t even say it, it bugs me so much…but I’m sure everyone knows what I’m talking about.)

And Miss Flamingo, I love, love, LOVE your jewelry set! I say wear them both at the same time, and go easy on the makeup. In looking back at my pictures (non-pro) from the wedding day that people took, I feel I looked a bit drag-queenish/clownish. (I think it was the false eyelashes…if I could take one thing back that day, it would be those.) My jewelry was complimentary to the makeup, though, in that it wasn’t competing in any way. Had I been wearing a lovely set like you have along with my makeup? It would have been a mess…

But, good Lord, that is a gorgeous set of jewelry!

21.
Jennifer says:

I agree…one or the other! Separately, they’re both beautiful…but together, a little over the top.

sarah says:

matching earrings/necklace sets scream “dated” to me. like prom. and i’m inclined to say one or the other but not both. wait, i lied. stay with the necklace and ditch the earrings.

but if you put on your dress, veil, necklace, earrings and post a picture i may change my mind. some looks can be pulled off by the right person.

Miss Tulip says:

That necklace is amazing! And really it’s quite a decent price considering how fabulous it is (and that you’ll have it as a keepsake/heirloom forever)…. Can’t wait to see it with your dress!

wow those look great! I thought I got crazy bling jewelry for my wedding and later when I looked at the pictures, they didn’t look THAT huge! So go full out! It’s your wedding!!!

25.
jane says:

it’s your only day when you’re justified to wear all that bling, i say go for it! i looooove jewelry too…i’m just like you and bought my jewelry before. i don’t even have the dress yet!

26.
L says:

Yeah…I’m curious to see how the entire set looks like together. It might be a little too matchy matchy, but I am LOVING the necklace! Great taste. :)

27.
Katie says:

They are both beautiful pieces. If you want to wear them both you could wear the earrings for the ceremony and the necklace for the reception (or vice versa). But I definitely agree that it should be one or the other.
