Ticking Clock…

November 2nd, 2007 @ 1:59 pm by Mrs. Peppermint

Perhaps it’s just me, but the last few months of wedding planning have definitely been the hardest! Now, don’t get me wrong, I’ve been a good planner. I had lined up all the vendors well in advance and even managed to stay ahead of schedule. But it’s in these last few months (or month for me now) that all the little things are creeping up. The logistical, ooh-don’t-forget-to-do-this, little, pesky details. On top of this, the holidays are creeping up on us (with our wedding sandwiched in between!) and nearly every weekend leading up to the wedding is booked with something. Aaah!

Okay, there really is only one solution for such a stressful time: IKEA. Now Mr. Peppermint might beg to differ because he has a love-hate relationship with the store. Basically, when he walks in he’s in awe. He’s super excited to go through all the rooms and get ideas. About half-way through the store, however, he starts to get restless and the growing crowds and wafting smell of Swedish meatballs only make it worse. My solution? Go on a weeknight before closing.

Well, I did just that and have bought most of the knickknack’s I’ve been needing to get for the wedding. First of all, if you need candles of any sort, look no further. They certainly have great deals and a pretty good variety of shape and size. We also bought large baskets to house our programs, flower cones, & bathroom baskets.

Glimma Tea Candles ($2.99/100):

To mark our table names, I had ordered prints on Kodak of the Hitchcock posters corresponding to each table name (as a reminder, we’re naming the tables after Hitchcock films because Mr. Peppermint & I met in film school at the Hitchcock class). I put each of these prints in a frame for each table. I think I may pair them with a smaller frame that simply says the name, so that there’s no confusion. Here’s how they turned out:

I can’t decide: should the inevitable table of singles who don’t really fit anywhere else be “Strangers on a Train” or Lifeboat?”

Those table name frames look really neat!

Sarah - I would say “Strangers on a Train.” “Lifeboat” is a little depressing, no?

Sarah! Hee.

I love IKEA and think it’s a great resource for those that don’t usually think of places to get little odds and ends for the ceremony and reception.

We’re getting their fantastic looking vases for our centerpieces and their fun lanterns for the outdoor portion of the reception.

Such an amazing deal. As for candles, we might go with IKEA, but I think we want soy to avoid smell and because they last longer. Which, I can get on eBay, too.

Mmm, meatballs.

I just made an IKEA run this past weekend for wedding stuff. We got the jars we’re going to be using for our “cookie reception” for $2.99 each. The ones at Micheals were no less than $10! And we got these cool glass bottles to put milk and sweet tea in for $1.99 each! We really racked it up! I was so excited. Love, love, LOVE IKEA!!!

the little things that you thought you had plenty of time to do or have to last minute just pile up on you but you’ll make it!

do whatever you can now (if it doesn’t involve food) and that way you won’t be nuts. for instance — i wrapped my BM’s gifts a week early b/c i new it would be one more thing i didn’t want to rush to do the day before we left for vermont.

As a 12/15 bride, I can definitely relate! I just used my lunch hour to run to Garden Ridge & check off 2 items from my lengthy to-do list.

sadly, we don’t have an IKEA in St. Louis. *tear*

Seriously, how is it November already?! Seriously?

I was excited about the IKEA candles as well, but I wonder how long they last. Anyone know?

Ohhhhh…I have IKEA envy! None here. Never gonna get one. Boo. On our last trip, we went to Seattle, drove to the nearest IKEA and came back with my luggage stuffed with mini glass tealight holders. I can’t even order online and have them ship to me: how much does THAT suck?!
